X3c Fail On Opening X2 Project
I'm able to run X3c Producer fine within itself. When I try to open recent X2 Producer projects, X3c fails. Sometimes, it will load a few synths... Sometimes, it has trouble finding synths (which is to be expected, I suppose). Sometimes, it will just freeze. I've tried opening them in safe mode - holding shift and clicking. I've also scanned the forum - but couldn't find anything on this. Thoughts? Help? Thank you!

Hi Patrick . . . first, did you perform the VST rescan after the Sonar X3c install ? Were your X2 projects 64 bit Sonar as well ? Did you use any 32 bit plugins when you created these projects in X2 ? When you open the X2 projects in Safe mode with no plugins, do they open and play properly at all ? Have you been able to determine which synths will not load ? Just wondering if all your synths appear, and are available in your X3 install. I'm currently working on many projects created in X1, X2 (and earlier) - and have had no backwards compatibility issues with them.

Hey Noynekker.. I'm actually having issues opening a project I had done with x3a as well. I'm beginning to think this is a problem with X3c than X3 in general - but I can't verify that because I hadn't tried to open an old project prior to updating to X3c. I've rescanned my VSTs with no luck. On this most recent project created in X3a, it seems to load the synths fine in X3c. If it loads from top to bottom (which is a mere guess), it might not like Ozone 4 and QL Spaces, which I've got loaded on to one of the final busses. To the best of my knowledge, all of my plugins should be 64 bit. I've been trying to find a way to uninstall X3c and go back to A -- but I neglected to set up a restore point. I appreciate you taking the time to help!

Patrick . . . you've mentioned Ozone 4 on your final bus, makes me wonder if you have your soundcard latency setting high enough for this particular project to be able to load such a plugin, and then do playback.

I'm definitely going to have to check that out. I uninstalled\re-installed X3a and things still wouldn't work. It would always crash when it tried to load either Ozone 4 or QL Spaces. I could get things to open and load synths in safe mode so long as I didn't load the 2 audio plugins. I saved the project without those plugins.... re-opened it in normal mode... and re-added the audio plugins. I was able to export my final audio track. Just for fun, I wanted to see if it was still an issue - and it crashed again. :( I wasn't having this problem prior to updating to X3c. This is really bizarre.

I'd start with a full/manual uninstall of X3: - Uninstall via Programs and Features
- Delete all X3 related folders
- Under HKLM>Software>Cakewalk Music Software - delete the Sonar X3 folder
- Under HKCU>Software>Cakewalk Music Software - delete the Sonar X3 folder
You can now reinstall X3... and see if the problem persists with X3a

Is X2 still installed? If so, do those previous projects load/play as expected in X2?

Oh boy, I'm curious how that problem turns out to fixed ... looks awefully familiar to my issues with not being able to open some projects lately (3 up to now, all open and play fine in X2a where they were created) I wonder if someone from Cakewalk will comment on this or my problems. Didn't someone today say there are no corrupt files with Sonar? There's a striking accumulation of files Sonar just saved and can't read back shortly afterwards

@Jim - I just got a new system, so X2 has never been on it. I'm still trying a few things.

Still on Win 8 because I read that 8.1 was causing problems.

OK!!!!!! I think I found the culprit. By a series of trials and errors, I was able to discover that it was my QL Spaces reverb plugin that was causing the issue. If I removed the .dll file from the VSTplugin folder, it would pop up and let me know it was missing, but would load properly otherwise. I can't wrap my head around how\why though. When disabled, I can get into the project just fine. Earlier, I was able to re-load it into the project and it worked perfectly. It just wouldn't open again once the project was closed. I'm going to try to re-install it. Thank you everyone for your help!

Yup 8 times out of 10 plugins... good on you... Guess you will be contacting EastWest support (apparently my favorite forum that I've never been to!). This simply demonstrates that just because somebody is having similar symptoms, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are having the same problem.

I had a very similar issue. It turned out to be voxengo glisseq that was messing things up. Glisseq had never caused me any problems before, so it seems like there was a change in the x3c update that brought out some conflicts with plugins that worked fine before. Glad you figured things out.
