Smedberg Credit is given to Per Larsson at Sampletekk for the recordings. Is there an old Sampletekk piano inside here or have he done the sampling of another steiny D? According to Per it's new recordings...

Hi all Am I missing something here - I was expecting something different, more like Toontracks Ezkeys I suppose - this just seems to be yet another Piano Library - albeit in a very nice GUI. I see no features like Ezkeys nor anything else to really set it apart. Has anyone more information? Cheers Nigel

Only thing different, but like Pianoteq, is the phrase recorder button. And maybe the tweakability with Mic-positions. But rather small size of it. Only around 1-1,5Gb per instrument...

Smedberg Thanks I thought so - to be honest I have some very good piano and especially electric piano libraries which I use all the time so I don't think I will be bothering with this - shame - I think they have really missed a trick here - being late into the market they needed to do some different - whether or not you think Ezkeys is any good or not, at least it was different! Be interesting to see if they try and add some functionality at a latter date - big mistake in my book if they do as most people will have already made their minds up about the product. Cheers Nigel

Downloaded and installed the free 49 key version (Studio Grand). It has 8 very usable presets and is fully tweakable. The biggest point of confusion for me was where the installer put the vst dll files. It auto installs and does not ask where to put them. I found the 64bit in program files/vstplugins and the 32bit in program files (86)/cakewalk/vstplugins. Like others I have a good arsenal of piano samples. What I like about this one is the GUI and its easy tweakability. The tone is also nice right out of the box. Not sure if I will purchase the full version--right now the price for the Grand Piano (88keys) is $49. That is not bad for a decent Steinway Grand. All three pianos Grand, Upright and Electric are $179.

Just for information, with the new auto installer, you have to first go into Documents / xlnaudio / presets I think it is and tell it where to put the Dll's Nigel

This library follow the same tradition as the latest SampleTekk Black having around 1,5 gig of samples. The other SampleTekk libraries having a lot more gigabytes per instruments.

Thanks for this info. It is what I suspected. I will say that I like the GUI for the Addictive Keys better than the new one that is used for the new SampleTekk Black for Kontakt5. While I like the Black for Kontakt5, and while their new Kontakt 5 GUI is not bad (much better than their older ones), the GUI in the Addictive Keys is definitely nicer. I also like having the presets as starting points in the Addictive Keys. Thanks for this post.

Hello all! The three "Studio Collection" instruments which are initially offered for Addictive Keys are brand new recordings made by the piano-sampling experts at Sampletekk - exclusively for XLN Audio. The instruments were carefully selected for the best sound character available. Recordings were made with multiple sets of microphones and microphone positions from which the best ones were selected. Both stereo pairs and rare vintage mono mics are available. One of the strong points of Addictive Keys is that stereo mix-down from up to 3 selectable stereo channels is done live during playback, with lots of effects processing available. / Markus D / XLN-Audio

Well...the acoustic pianos (grand and upright) didn't overwhelm me. But I was quite surprised by the Rhodes. I'm a Lounge Lizard user and to me it's the benchmark by which all others are judged. I've got several Rhodes emulations but LL has still not been topped. Now I'm not so sure. As a life long "real" Rhodes user this new one from XLN (at least the demos) impresses me greatly. PS: Don't suppose there's a discount for the Rhodes version for existing XLN users????

Yoropal Did you ever try OTR-88 from Devine Machine? I was so impressed when it first came out I purchased this - still use it but only over LAN via Vienna Pro as it was never updated and I think is now unavailable. Just wondered if you had tried it and how it compared to LL? Cheers Nigel

Just checked - no longer available (see link below) so YET another piece of software for my ever growing Software Cemetery!!!! The list of software that I have that will now become obsolete very soon just keeps growing - Kore, Powercore, Muse(Giga Sampler) , Kjeahus, Devine Machine - others I'm too depressed to think of!! - the list is getting bigger every day!!! http://www.kvraudio.com/product/otr88_by_devine_machine_software Nigel

Electric Grand Added Today- $69.95http://www.xlnaudio.com/en/products/view/45 I remember lugging this around in 2 anvil cases & setting it up years ago. The keyboard player tried to get it to sound like a real piano but couldn't get it quite there. Better than schlepping around his compact upright that we used on a few occasions though!

Well...I'll have to say that the more I use the AK Grand the more I'm liking it. I can get it fit in a mix and I like how It can be tweaked hard or soft or in between. I'm using it more than my NI stuff or my SampleTekk stuff. But I still love my old QS8 True Stereo for general work and mock ups. It bites...and I mean that in a good way;-)

In the top left corner you find "audio settings" where you can set your sound card and midi as wanted.

yorolpal Well...the piano sounded pretty "digital" to my ol ears.
I have the Rhodes and the Grand. The Rhodes is underwhelming but the Grand is nice and mixes well. I have the Garritan Steinway and Alecia's Keys and this is actually easier to fit in a mix and is very tweakable.

This sounds like latency - you are going to have to check all your settings and see what causing this - I know I reset my sound cards asio settings from when I'm mixing (I make them as large as possible) and tracking (as small as I can get away with) - what sound card are you using? Are you using Asio? What are your settings? Nigel

This sounds like a supplied with motherboard type thing to me - I have no experience of this. But in almost all cases that I have come across, pre-supplied set ups like this are not good enough for music production. I think you will need to buy yourself a proper sound card.
