Your own dumb stupid workflow thread
OK here's a confession. I spent 20 minutes today wondering why SOLO and MUTE buttons disappeared from a track. I immediately blamed drum maps and possibly track templates. Getting more and more pissed off I decided to have a cup of tea and chill out. I came back noticing that I had in fact pressed the archive button.

My personal favorite is troubleshooting why I can't hear anything when I first start up, only to realize the VS-700 master fader was all the way down from completing a fadeout in my previous session. I have plenty more.

My favourite is customising the toolbar for a quicker workflow and then doing exactly what I've always done, ignoring the customisations! I think I'm too old to change.

Sometimes the RME doesn't send signal to the headphones unless you twist the volume nob. Signal is present everywhere including the RME TotalMix but you must touch the volume nob or you get nothing!
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I have on a few occasions done troubleshooting like crazy for not getting sound, where it turned out that I had left the input or output in my Audio interface muted on the interface console (for some reason).

My audio monitors and RME Interface are on power switch. My computer monitor is not. So, sometimes I sit down at the DAW to do updates. Don't need monitors and interface for that. The I want to audiotion the update (drum libraries, new VSTs etc.). Fire up Platinum. %#%@&^#%$@^* I forgot to turn on the audio monitors and interface.

Ah, I see skinnybones does not have a surface controller like I do (which I forget to mention is on the same power lines as interface). 8. set control surface. 9. Shut down SONAR 10. Start SONAR

IIRC I just turned on the interface and said no to the dialog box. Everything worked without having to restart Sonar. I'm too new to know if that is a good idea or not!

I spent 10 minutes in my studio this morning pre-rehearsel checking cabling to and from my guitar amp, effects processor, guitar, studio monitors and just about every thing else that might result in total silence. Of course had I turned my mixer on in the first place it might have all worked sooner.

I forget to turn on the audio interface so often, resulting in having to turn Sonar off then on again, that unless I'm tracking and need the extra inputs, I now use an 'always on' USB powered interface to obviate the issue.

Record guitar part (new riff) free form without a click Record drums bass lead guitar sing then.... Re-record it all against a click so I can tighten up performance against the grid but wishing I could have the groove of the loose first try. I do this over and over because I have no minions to just play it with me.

I haven't successfully done it yet ,but there is a way to match Sonar to that beat. I have a complete tune done to a guy playing a highhat on his kbd. In Sonar, you can match the click to that highhat and you will see the bpm vary with your beat. I have to watch the Groove 3 video again, as I missed something and it didn't work. It is supposed to work. I am doing the drum loops, so matching to whatever I get would be cool!!

Booting up my system and load in an big project, and to my big horror then getting terrible drop-outs and crackling sound as if my interface is completely breaking down... Then suddenly realizing I have set the buffer on my interface as low as possible the last time I used it, because I did an simple record session and wanted to keep latency as low as possible... and forgot to restore settings to normal..

Religiously plug in everything, set up that perfect drum beat, try in vain to record your awesome new guitar riff: Silence. Follow every cable, every buss, every effect. Record again. Silence. Swear loudly, then check the volume knob on your Jazzmaster. Dammit.

Now, it got me :-) it took me a loooooooong time to figure how to convert a recorded MIDI part between double, normal and half time because I wanted double tempo settings but same sounding playback ... I've been stretching audio clips ... but how could I know that MIDI clips work the same ... Sonar is way too consistent and intuitive if you ask me ;-)
