So,...beagle, for the record,...I called cakewalk tech support and held for over half an hour...to find out that no,..you can't use the drum show durations button in session drummer...but you say you were in session drummer when you took that screen shot...it's weird....I never got that button to work in session drummer,..but had partial success in cakewalk tts,..and 100% success when using the drum map for gm drums....the program seems to intermittently not allow that button to work for whatever reason...to me,..that's a defect..I reported it via email tech support...(I've mailed them 3 times over the past month or so and gotten not word 1 back grrr).the guy I talked to said he'd add a note that they should add that feature in session drummer,..but...I'm skeptical as to whether that's gonna happen or not...
just figgered I'd give you the heads up...
on the positive side,..I somehow stumbled onto how to use the drum map to play the session drummer sounds...and I have the non duration bearing notes to use,..so it's been good..I saved a track with all the goodys in it for midi drum creation.....it just sucks,..cuz I have to figure out how I did it, so I can do it again. I just ordered a new puter and have to start from scratch..tho maybe I can cakewalk bundle the files so they'll be setup the same?....(crossing myself)...I hope someday they retool the midi drums section a bit....add functionality for choked cymbals,....more features as far as tempo control (so you can change the tempo of the entire piece while keeping the tempo changes the same, for example)...and so forth...for some of us,..this is the only way we get the drums in our head into our songs in our band..!!...I can't stand loops....
peace out..!!

Speaking of tempo... I was thinking the other day that it'd be cool if there was a tempo envelope, maybe up in the navigator pane. Just an idea.

I've tried to answer some of the more common SHS questions:

there is a tempo envelope,...if you click on view/tempo, it shows a tempo line...that you can drag....kinda...not very easy to control though...
what I would like to see is a tempo map that you can freeze,..then change the tempo globally for your whole song and the tempo changes you have painstakingly created change relative to the overall tempo...does that make sense?..so for instance,...if you had a song that went from 100 bpm and there was a change to 50 bpm and back to 100,...if you changed the overall tempo to half that,...it would go 50,..change to 25 and back...etc....maybe it has that...but I don't think so...

Oh, cool! I hadn't noticed that before. But I was kinda thinking along the same lines as you, Evan, in that maybe you could view percentages as well... Yeah, I'm probably asking too much...

that is interesting, evan. technically, the track that I posted a view of was actually a drum track with 3 softsynth outputs. One output went to SD2, another went to TTS-1 and a 3rd went to Adictive Drums demo. maybe because of the other program outputs is why it works, I don't know. I'll experiment with SD2 solely and see what happens.
