can't pan in X1?
Iv'e tried interleave settings and deleting fx but I can't pan right or left. All it does is make the volume softer when either panned left or right. and the line tool for envelope does not work for me but the others like free hand and sine work. and how do I bind the letter "c" to change my mouse to split audio mode like in sonar 8.5 so that I can just swith easily between select and split or (Cut)

It's gotta be something simplistic. Even with the interleave in mono it should still pan. Question: Is this a simple audio or instrument track?

Yes, Sharpdion, Chris is right that it has to be something simple. Now that we know you don't have panning working in 8.5, there's a user error involved, since basic panning has worked since day one of Cakewalk- it even works in X1--! If you're dealing with audio that you want panned differently from the way it was recorded, it needs to be mono. The full stereo field is available to you that way. But you may want to record your track in stereo with the sound source already panned, and maybe some natural ambience recorded with the signal, like perhaps a vocal with room sound in it. In that case, if you've ended up with a stereo track, it's not going to pan as you may expect, because it's already a stereo signal with the main sound already located in that stereo field. You see? If it's a soft synth, you have the choice of panning it before bouncing to audio, or keeping it at center, and then recording a mono track where you can freely pan it anywhere. But the main concept here is that if something is already in stereo, it's logical that it's not going to respond fully to panning, because there's already a stereo image involved, while panning is the act of placing a sound (preferably monophonic) in a stereo field. You see? Randy B.

I'm sure it worked fine before, but how do I get it to pan now? any solutions? I have a SPS-66 FireWire, though I doubt it might help. oh and I tried to create a new project, import a song and pan it but same thing. when I record I just create a new audio track plug my mic into the input 1/L of my SPS-66 FireWire and set the input of the track to input 1/l, so basically recording in mono, ithink.

The dead give away that you're trying to pan a stereo signal is when you said the sound fades out as you pan - that's because it's stereo. It's already panned. You have the choice of either recording your signals with a stereo panning in them, or not--A lot of people record everything straight up center, mono, and then they have total flexibility of where they want to pan things. If you are talking about the "midi" track, it does not pan. But with a simple instrument track this should not be an issue anyways.

Well, but actually there is MIDI panning - done with CC10. I guess this thread is showing that the general topic of "panning" can be a bit complicated if the basic concepts of panning, and all the ways it's accomplished, isn't understood. Sharpdion--we're trying to help you. Not clear yet what kind of data you're dealing with, audio or MIDI, and if it's mono or stereo. It's all pretty simple really, but there several things to know about panning, involving the different kinds of source material possible. RB

Then I imported it back onto a new track. this had only one set of wave form and not two, and when I right click the clip it says to convert to stereo. So I'm guessing this signal is now mono. still it doesn't pan though. my Stereo Panning Law under Edit-Preferences is: 0db center, sin/cos taper, constant power Dim solo gain: -12dB Playback Timing Master: 1: Cakwalk SPS-66 LineOut 1&2 left

either a mono or a stereo track should pan regardless of interleave. I'm completely reaching here but is it possible that there is something off with the output (like a bus with the interleave off?)

Do you think it may have something to do with his ASIO control panel settings outside of Sonar? I can adjust panning and volumes outside of Sonar on my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.

Somehow your master output has changed to mono. That's why when you pan the volume drops slightly. Check your master & output devices etc

I create a new track and copy the audio and then it works. Something make the track not work correctly. Intermittent so very hard to recreate.
