They went through the apartment garage and removed all the electrical sockets from the parking areas. There are a couple of charging stations within driving distance. Those two things tell me electric cars are simply not practical for the masses. I would love an electric car if they could only make it feasible. I've actually driven 5 Ford Focus models since 2000. I'm on my first automatic in twenty years and I really don't like it. Today I was out in the country driving with the kid. My average speed was 45-50 mph and I was getting 50 mpg while running the AC. Cars are way better today than they were just ten years ago and there's lots of competition with heavy discounting. It's a buyers market.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. Well if you can afford a Volt it is probably not an issue to you, but it costs over $400.00 to replace a lost car key and $150.00 to change a headlamp bulb in my Prius. Saving the world at an outrageous cost of ownership.

Hi, All I know is that I miss ... TERRIBLY ... my 1975 VW Bus! ... and both VW and others do not want to make any more of those things! And with that 1800 Porsche engine and Solex carbs ... I can tell you that thing was awesome with a torsion bar added to the back! Totally awesome!

I'm looking at a Prius here. Just to bug my neighbour, who still uses his old black smoke spewing, loose flapping box, rattletrap old 1972 Ford F150 pickemup truck.

If that's what he's driving, do you really think it will bother him if you drive a Prius? I would think it would be the other way around!

I'll have you know that the 8-track still mostly works. The Fool for the City tape is pretty well shot, but the deck still works if you hit it a couple of times with this tire iron. Still has the original seats, too. Granted, I have to get a tetanus booster pretty regular. For the squeamish passengers who whine a bit about getting jabbed when they sit down, I keep some old oil rags on the dashboard to sop up any unwanted bloodstains. No, your window crank don't work. Just yank on the window. If it starts to rain, you might have to hold it up. What do you mean, seat belts? What do you think this is, a Lear Jet? What noise? Oh, that thud? Why, that's just Skeeter. He likes to ride in the back. I don't rightly know why. All I know is that he very rarely falls through that rusted out section behind the left wheel well anymore. What in tarnation are you doing? Get your hands off of them controls! Do you have a death wish, son? I put in that air conditioner myself back in '78. Granted, we've lost a few due to the toxic fumes, but if you know what you're doing, you can get a cool breeze without any permanent damage. Also, I have a bologna sandwich in there and I ain't ready to cook it just yet. Ok, listen. We're coming up on a left turn. You need to hold on the dashboard for a bit. Your door don't shut quite as tight as it used to. If you ain't paying attention, you'll shoot right outta there before you know what happened. Take some of this here duct tape and kinda strap yourself in. You know, I probably should have mentioned the snakes. Skeeter likes to keep them behind the bench seat. Sometimes, they get a little friendly. I got some anti-venom and WD-40 in the glove compartment. Where are you going? Didn't you hear what I said about the left turn? Skeeter, do you mind jumping down and pulling him off of that cactus? Now, does your fancy electro-nuclear-future car come with a guy who can pull thorns outta your hide? I didn't think so. Stop your whining. I'll get the WD-40.

I test drove a Chevy Dolt. I thought it was a pretty good fit, but the salesman said he couldn't sell it to me because the car was too sophisticated for me.

On a Serious note, I did test drive a Prius C (because it's cheaper than a real Prius). I really liked it. I didn't buy it because, well, I'm hideously cheap, and instead, I fixed some stuff on my mini-van. (Yes, I drive an 11 year old mini-van. What? Why are you giving me that look?) So, instead of getting 50 mph, I'll stick with getting 20. It's not like the price of gas might ever go up, right?

With the coming Ice Age in 15 years, I'm thinking I might best pick up a 4 wheel drive and a couple of snow mobiles. I guess I better tell the sales person to throw in a set of snow tires with it.....maybe a block heater as well.

Can we still look cool driving a minivan? Apart from the jokes.... Do all your research online and if there are 2-3 dealers fairly close by, get them all to compete with each other on the pricing (doing it online). IIRC I read somewhere that if the dealer gets about $1k over the actual price of the vehicle, it's enough of a profit for them.......of course, they'll try to make as much as possible.........YMMV.

Be sure to check out the new Teslas. I'm no car talkin' dood but they seem to be the next best thing to a hovercar and their pricing has gotten better. They've also been doing it longer... and not as begrudgingly as their big auto counterparts.

Hating smug, smarmy, condescending behavior is one thing. Hating a perfectly valid and useful technology is ridiculous. If you NEED a big gas powered truck or other vehicle... you need it. If you don't and choose one of the newer less toxic (and in many situations less expensive) alternatives then that's no ones business (as long as you aren't forcing it on others). If you don't and STILL choose the gas guzzling truck, even if that seems counterproductive to me personally, that's still no one's business (as long as you aren't forcing it on others). Enjoy your life. Be good to your fellow man. Do what is right for you, your needs and your own conscience but above all... Don't be a *BIG MEANIE PERSON. No one here. Certainly not you, Beags. I know you as a kind, rational human. Just Trimph's neighbor sounds like kind of a jerk if he's that hateful toward electric/hybrid cars. If someone were being a total irrational arse in the opposite direction I would think the same thing. That was the point. There's no real winning in pissing contests. Just a lot of dicks and piss. I can delete the post if it's inappropriate.
