distorted sounds coming from tts-1

Hi,
while using  the tts-1, I keep getting distorted sounds, even if its the only thing I have open in Sonar 8.3, I have low CPU usage, and no other programs open.
I use tts-1 quite often and this has just now started happening.
Any ideas as to why?

Also I'm  recording at 24/96........ I have been using it like this for a year, and like I said have never had any problems till now.
Thanks

You say you're recording at 24/96, but I've never had luck with TTS-1 at that setting.  I too get a very ugly distortion, and always have (at least as far back as Sonar 6 Producer).  If I go down to 24/48, no problems.  So I think it's something to do with the frequency and not the bit depth.  I just assumed it was one of those synths that just couldn't hack it at 24/96 and moved on.  However, if you do get it working again, I'd love to know the trick.

    Hi Bit,

the only software I have installed recently is ik free sampletank, I started having problems right after that, I have uninstall-ed it and that didn't fix anything.

We can't follow the link, it is a local pathway on your computer.
So have you recorded using TTs-1 using 24/96 with out issue?

And that plug in you uninstalled, go into your directory's and make sure it's completely gone. Sometimes un installing is not a complete deal unless you nuke the folder it was in under Programs or even in Sonars shared plug ins folder too.

Sounds like you found the problem.
Directory's or folders etc. When we remove software it often leaves behind folders that you have to manually delete.

could that have been the culprit ??

Same thing here mysonar8 ... TTS-1 does not work at 96. I discovered this quite some time ago.

If you're still looking for a way to import a downloaded midi and have it work, you could use the SFZ + player and download a GM SF2 bank. There's still a couple of places to get some halfway decent sounding SF2 GM banks.

Maybe TTS-1 will be updated with X1? :)

mysonar8 - I don't know how you had been using it for a year at 96k (and I'm not saying you didn't) but this is a known bug that TTS-1 has had ever since it came out in Sonar 5(?) and hasn't been repaired.  it will only work in 44.1k and 48k IIRC (I can't recall if it works at 88.2k or not, but I'm leaning toward not).

mysonar8 is right TTS-1 does work at  24bit/96kh
I have used TTS-1 at 24/96 since Sonar 6 with the following...
XP on an ASUS 32bit computer, with a UA-25 and SoundBlaster card
Vista on a HP 32bit computer, with a UA-25 and Realtec internal card
All my recordings are 24/96 and the TTS-1 never failed me on theses machines, but... I’ve now bought a Win7 HP Pavilion dv6 3031TX Win7 home premium 64-bit, “I7 720QM”  Note Book (no probs with grunt anymore) But have found the same distorted sounds, at 24/96 both with my UA-25 and internal sound card, switch to 16/44 and it sounds clean as a whistle
I’m no expert but could it be a 64bit machine issue?
I to would like a solution to this as I have a lot of half finished projects that I can’t continue working on.

Which seems weird to me because if you look in the tts1 user manual it shows it is supported at 96, and like I say it did until recently.

    Custom install.
Reinstall as normal till you get to the window asking “Choose Type” Click on “Advanced”
Click on Next 2 times i think, or till your asked “ Choose components”
tick the box besides TTS-1 and uncheck all other items.

Plus your also right about groove synth it f’sup too.

    Hi beagle,
I know it is a weird bug too, if people have been having these problems since sonar 6, via the link you posted, you would think cake would either fix the bug or update the manual.
But my whole thought is if I had it working once surely it can work again, or am I just a crazy loon?

    Thanks Beagle,

also thank you GlennP I will try it and let you know how it works out, but if I had to guess it most likely wont.

Beagle you can declare the manuals wrong, you can point to as many form strings as you like, you can state that it can’t be done...
    But mysonar8 had it working
I’ve had TTS-1 at 24/96 on two previous computers, using Sonar 6 and 8.5
And that’s what I call “empirical evidence”

Mysonar8 I say theirs away around it and we'll find it

I hope we can, I am going to try the install now.
also do you think it could have been the midi file  mentioned in post #14 I imported that did it? because it was working just fine because  when I opened a new project, inserted tts1 tested the sound by pushing the music note to see if I had the right I/Os, but when I imported the midi file I clicked play... keeer I got a very LOUD distorted sound, and I thought well its because I installed sampletank, but I have since un-installed it same problem.
if we cant fix it it wont be that bad going to 48, just irritating knowing I had something working in 96, recored a bunch of songs in that format and now I have to change all the files to work in 48.

Mysonar8 I doubt it was the MIDI file, have a look at it and see if theirs any sysex  message in the midi file that could possibly be a gremlin. Besides that, remember I,ve got the same problem on a new machine and I’ve not loaded foreign midi’s… just my own stuff
I omitted to say earlier that when reinstalling a plug-in that has a corrupted .dll file it sometimes helps if you firstly remove in this case (TTS-1) from within the cakewalk Plug-in manager. Then Remove the complete folder in cakewalk / Shared Dxi / TTS-1
Then reinstall the plugin using "Custom install" which is an option when you run the installer. Then you need to reload TTS-1 with the Plug-in manager… It’s all a pain in the A. but that’s how I fixed the PX64 percussion strip when it locked up on me
As johnnyV stated in post #13
When we remove software it often leaves behind folders that you have to manually delete.
Anyway if you have already reinstalled and had no luck with the TTS-1, and don’t want to try the above, I’ll try it on my machine tonight (Australian time) but I’ll check this thread first to see if you have had any luck.
