does X3 support multi-output vst plug-ins?
I just could not find the info anywhere, and I'd to know if a plug-in like the hornet 3xover could have its multiple outputs routed to different audio tracks, not buses. Cheers.

I figured out that there is a demo (duh). Nop, doesn't work. Even when configured as a synth, the plug-in's outputs do not show up in the track inputs. Booooooooo!!!

Edited - oops I missed the point of the question.

I believe the issue is about MIDI outputs being routable to MIDI-aware processors in other tracks, not about audio...

Yeah but for this particular plug-in to be of any use, it needs to be inserted in an audio track's fx bin. Outputs from a plug-in in the fx bin will not show up in another track's audio inputs. Also, oddly, if I insert this plug-in directly in the synth rack, I see only its main output in my track inputs (which is of course useless anyway) and not the other ones, it should have 3. So sadly, it's not compatible at all with X3. I really wish that this rather basic functionality was integrated in Sonar directly instead of having to fiddle with tons of separate filters and buses that I can't even sort out in folders. Like, I know that I can split my tracks that come from live synths or samplers easily enough by having 2 or more tracks wired to the same output, but for tracks with straight audio, I have to either use an annoying network of buses or clone my tracks which I find to be a very unclean way to work, I'd rather be able to simply split my signal from one single source while staying inside my track view.

Absolutely, I know about metaplugin, and I don't have it because it's so expensive for what should, in my mind, be a basic routing feature in sonar, so when I found out about the cheap 3Xover, I was like hell yeah I'm getting that, and I'm fairly disappointed that sonar can't even handle that

It is possible to create multiple tracks from a single audio track and drop crossovers on the tracks. Add sends to the side chain of a plug-in like Sonitus Gate on new audio tracks. Set the gate to play the side chain input. Add Sonitus Multiband after the gate, solo a band and set the compression to 1:1.

Very interesting workaround, had never noticed you could switch the output of the gate to the sc... well this is pretty cool, albeit a little less practical than having a single crossover frequency for two tracks but, on the other hand allows me to play with resonance for my filters which that 3xover can't do, that was it's main con for me. Anyway yeah this works pretty well, gonna set me up some nice little fx chains and folder templates, definitely gonna shave off some time. This isn't the first time I see you come up with nifty tactics like this, you're a proper sonar trooper mr scook, thumbs up

Not my original idea. The side chain monitoring was mentioned previously here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3050940. Craig Anderton is the advocate for the Sonitus Multiband crossover idea. Try grouping the Multiband frequency parameters to make setting up the crossovers easier.

How can I group my two cutoff knobs that are in different fx chains on separate tracks though, without using ACT ideally?

Try grouping the plug-in parameters in the automation lanes.

Of course. I spent so much time using only Auto Track Zoom that I forgot that I can see automation lanes for several tracks, lol. Good stuff.
