Midi Keyboard Controller Recommendations

Hey guys. It looks like I finally have a buyer for my Korg Triton Extreme. I'm selling it because we don't use the Korg sounds in the studio, we only use it as a controller for soft synths, and I'd like to reduce the space taken up by the Korg (88 key).
Currently the Korg Triton is connected via midi to my Mackie Control Pro.
I'm looking for some recommendations for a midi keyboard controller I'm thinking 61 key to replace my Triton.
Thanks.

The one I'm leaning toward is the Edirol PCR-800. Does anyone have any experience with this unit?

I've had one for about 18 months. Works great straight out of the box. I use the controller part of it to control synths/plugins etc. I also use it in a non-Sonar environment occasionally via MIDI to my Sonic Cell.

I'm a guitarist at heart so I'm sure a pianist/keyboard player may like a better action but it's great for me and what I use it for. Easy to set up and more functions than I'm ever going to use, Cheap at the mo as well due to the release of the new keyboard mentioned above.

I just posted about this very subject a few days ago. This is what I wrote:

I just picked up an Edirol PCR- 500 at Guitar Center for $167.00 plus tax. They are discontinued and GC is blowing them out. You can't get them on the website, you have to go into the store.

I have to say I love this thing. It works with Sonar almost perfectly. I think I like this better than the new A-Pro Series (the PCR's have 16 drum pads, the A-Pro's only have 8).

Just thought I'd pass on the info.

Would there be any advantages to having 2 pcr-500's connected? At 149.99 I may have to buy 2.

Just my 2¢ worth, but one day I think you'll regret having sold the Triton (and wish you had ANY 88-key controller)...

As they are ony 49 note it may partly help to address the lack of keys, but it would not be the same as a 88 key.

If you use VSTi with keyswitches you could use the second board for that.

It would be pretty handy for controlling somthing like B4 II as you would have upper and lower manuals (or indeed any time you need to play two sounds at the same time. it would bet a split.

+1. I agree. 61 keys is not enough to really play anything. If you're just doing one-handed keyboard parts it may suffice.

...I finally have a buyer for my Korg Triton Extreme. I'm selling it because we don't use the Korg sounds in the studio...

    I'm suprised.
    I love mine.
Yes it is my midi controller for SoftSynths.
But there are days when the sounds of the Triton (it's not the Extreme version, just the original one)are just so much better than any soft synth.
Other days I might prefer a soft sybth.

Also if I replaced it, then there would have to be another keyboard in its place.
So I may as keep it.

My wife still uses the Triton as her main song writing tool and will not let me sell our Triton... at all ...ever!!

I went to GC and bought the PCR-500 149.99, and the PCR-300 99.99. Loaded the drivers and got them working. Now I need to figure out how to set them up to control soft synth parameters.
USB powers them, so I'm using them via usb rather than midi.
Yes I feel a little remorse for selling the triton, but I was only using it as a midi controller. Never used it to play out.
    Thanks for the help.

I use the Akai MPK 49  I love the keyboard , but hate using it with sonar , The logical move would be to buy the new CW keyboards, because knowing CW's track record when Sonar 9 comes out who the hell know what will work , The only keyboard we can no for sure that will work will be the Cw keyboards..
