HELP NEEDED!

Hi!
 
I am really new to any kind of recording and programs!!
 
Here is my situation:
 
I have a Acer aspire laptop on windows vista, I have music Creator 5.
I have a Behringer Eurorack MX602A mixer and a Sure microphone.
 
I have plugged the mic to the mixer and pluged the mixer in to my laptops soundcard jack which has a mic icon next to it.
 
When I try to select the input in the MC program it's coming up with my laptop built in mic. and I'm not sure what to do or if I have even connected this right!
 
 
I'm sure I sound like a complete dumb arse but at the risk of that can someone PLEASE give me some advice/help????

    My first thought would be that the mixer should be plugged into the "line" input of the laptop. Once the signal goes through the mixer it becomes a line output.
     
    Or, you might look into the laptop control panel, and disable the onboard mic, and see it the new input is recognized.

    have you run the wave profiler Sarah?  Then you do need to select the line in as the input.  Those laptops want to select the built in mic as the default  but you do have the option to select the line input. I'm not familiar with the Vista windows mixer, but there should be a software mixer in Vista where you can select the input source. check the windows control panel and look up sound. It's there because I have stumbled across it in the past.
