How long do you think is X1's lifecycle?

2, 3, 4 years... Eventually, we will all know soon enough but what you do think? Plus isn't another Expanded Module in the works? Wouldn't that negate a X2 Oct., Dec. release? And if X1e has been baking, shouldn't that have to be released soon?

I'm just getting started with my X1. If I didn't buy anything more for 10 years I'd still be able to make great sounding recordings 10 years into the future with what I already have.

There's no rule that says a software program must be replaced every year. Do you buy a new car every year ?? Knowing Cakewalk, they'll come up with something new and improved before you know it.

i think x1 will be around a long time, there are still folks using 8.5,affraid to upgrade in fear of the learning curve.
there really isnt one that is too bad,its fairly easy to pick up on.
sonar x1 was a huge step for cakewalk a giant leep for this kind.
it has the potential to live in the future a long, long time.

Some people have argued that the recent EU decision can be nerfed by a frequent release cycle.  If that is the case, perhaps we may see shorter cycles containing fewer features and revisions.

It depends on when the next update is ready and whats in it.
Why rush it if ain't quite ready as yet. They took quite a hit from many people complaining that X1 was a "beta release" and all that.
So will they do a partial upgrade to X1, like a half-price update they did with 8.0 to 8.5.

Actually doubt that it would really result in quicker release cycles...but one never really knows.

For a while there the EU tried to class bananas into A and B where A class had to be something like greater tha 14cm in length and with no irregular curve- or some other ridiculous ruling. It was to make the import of South American bananas more difficult. Just like they try to do to foreign shoemakers, foreign farmers etc etc.

No wonder the EU is a joke.

I'm in rare form tonight. I watched the moon go across the sky last night and I couldn't take my eyes off of it for about 2 ~ 3 hours. It was freaking awesome, but my neck is killing me today. ;)

I haven't been on here for along time due to me just playing through the softsynths, which I would say some are pretty good then I have been recording with no problems whatsoever. Just making songs press record and bam! another one.

So for me to come to the forums as often as I used to is no longer a viable option for me.

Do I care if an X2 comes out. Not really, this one is good enough for me. Just need more instruments. actually i have been looking at some upright electronical piano's Rolands and Yamaha sell some nice ones.

Thats where I am heading. It has been a child hood dream Thank God that there is technology around that can help me lean toward a goal.

Keep up the good work. Yes X1 was a bit of a sausage but now it is at a level close to where it should be and obviously if minor improvements are made within the X1 series then X2 will be closer to a model or standard that cake need to get to. On a whole I am happy!

In about 1 weeks time or so X1 will have been out 19 months. Also the cycle between SONAR 8 and 8.5 was 15 months so from SONAR 8 to now has been only 2 months short of 3 years. Does that mean that a new SONAR version will be released in 2 months time to coincide with the pre SONAR 8.5 fall releases. A bit more than a hint should be given to spice up the market and build a little tension.

While that doesn't say anything predictive it does tell you that its been the longest cycle in the SONAR product line.
This forum has been full of complaints that an annual update cycle meant that old bugs weren't fixed and recycled along with new features.
Perhaps at long last with the advent of additional sales from PC plugins and other content, Cakewalk can keep to a cycle where mature software is released and we won't have to do the X1 beta testing thing, in which many felt they were involved.
Greg H's parting word did hint strongly at exciting product announcements so maybe X2 is goong to be out by years end.

X1 was a major upgrade..and frankly i do not see such massive shortcomings that need to be majorly reworked for an X2 to be coming to improve Sonar as it is right now.. lots of detail stuff yes, but we could get to X1z like that.

With expanded and PC modules, cake have nicely managed to extract an upgrade fee from me this year without an upgrade... so i dont think there is substatial pressure on X1 per se..

So what is in a name?..who cares.. rather what is in the software..?..  simply bundling expanded to be the new producer plus bug fixes and some desktop customisation?.. meh....Sonar is a bargain already...

so what else?..a massive makeover to matrix view to compete against Live?.. now THAT may help market share...

As long as you want it to.

This is dependent upon a few things....such as keeping the computer in running condition, avoiding OS upgrades when the next 128bit OS is released....

As long as the computer is running, X1 will run.

Well I held off and stuck with 8.5 until a couple of weeks ago when I sprang for the Production Suite. If they are baking up X2 I hope they can bake in an actual wave editor so I can go in and edit out peaks and such to add to the functions of the existing editor. I also hope for a built in mastering solution like the users of Studio One enjoy. Since I am all in with Sonar, yes, I would like Sonar to be my musical swiss army knife. Why not?

Greg H's parting word did hint strongly at exciting product announcements so maybe X2 is goong to be out by years end.

That's what I was thinking too...   While the X1 series could go on, come December it will have already been two years.  And I don't see PC modules alone holding out *that* much longer.   I just hope whatever it is will be worth the two years.
