I was dissapointed and depressed once. I wrote a song about three cats walking down the hill and up again in the sunshine. Then I did a forward roll on the bed, tumbled on my girl and felt better. I forgot where my bad feelings came from. But it had nothing to do with DAWs as I recall.

I patently disagree with a rompler being a core DAW function by the way. And it appears I'm not alone, Reaper and ProTools are two of the most popular DAWs.

letyourlightshine Well I upgraded,I Always do,I have used Sonar since the one before sonar x1,it came with my first interface.I own reason, protools,fl studio, ableton live and now after getting a 2014 macbook pro as a wedding gift from my wife, logic, but I prefer sonar.I write 90 percent of my music on it.But nothing in the new version has me that excited.I would have liked to see new content for dimension pro or maybe some actual drum kits for session drummer pro that were any good. The FX amp rx chains sounded like the usual terrible amp sims and it seems a bit slow.Could be I have a fast powerful mac and no viable way to use my favorite DAW on it,bootcamp-failed,virtual machines fail.So i can now run it on my PC which is much much slower than my mac or use Daws that I have a hard time writing on.Depressing, almost makes me want to quit altogether.
I don't know how old your PC is, but if you're experiencing slowness on an FX chain, I'm guessing old. In which case my best advice is, sell the mac and buy a new PC, if it's your favorite DAW. You can run all your other DAWs except Logic, which would be the only reason to own the Mac. This isn't to start a Mac vs PC debate, I would say the same thing to a guy who's favorite DAW was logic and he had a 5 year old mac and his wife bought him a brand new PC that he tried turning into a hackintosh and found it didn't work.

I think it is unrealistic for Cakewalk to provide a super DAW and sample library. I would rather they focus on the DAW. Buy the sample library somewhere else. Meanwhile, stability and efficiency of the DAW is most important. If you can't afford a sample library, then it is not fair to expect an expensive one just included in the DAW at these kind of prices. I would rather Cakewalk stay out of the sample business and focus on a stable DAW with a super audio engine and glitche free.

I've been Mac based (MacBook Pro) for a few years now, and have had no problems (not one) running Windows 7 and various iterations of Sonar under Bootcamp. In fact, Windows (and thus Sonar) actually perform much better this way than any high spec'd PC laptop I've ever owned and used for mobile recording/performing.
What exactly is the issue?

I too hopeful that Cake upgrade Dimension and Rapture in the same as Z3ta. Then again, its somewhat amazing when folks go for the 'throwback' sounds and technology. Stuff like; tape stop, vinyl noise, old analog synths, vocoders, vintage warmth etc. How much of a creative use of Dimension(as an example)many probably may never explore before looking for the next new thing whilst simultaneously looking back at 30 year olds. Live in the present, I must say. Sonar Platty is my new 'best friend'

Good post, Alan. I agree. I own Sonar because I love the DAW. I think it's more important that Cakewalk focus on a powerful, stable, easy to use DAW.

You're depressed over a functioning piece of software that many of us (who don't have oodles of cash to drop on every DAW under the sun) are squirming in our britches to get our hands on? Can I have your copy? Let your light shine indeed. But if you actually ARE depressed over something like this and not just yanking our chains or being hyperbolic you should seek some help. That is not a proportional response and suggests much larger underlying issues.

I'm going to fly the flag for DimPro a bit. I'd be astounded for a DAW to include something as comprehensive as Kontakt as a freebie. It'd be nice, of course, but it's hardly to be expected. As a freebie to get you up and running while you've not got a full on paid for alternative, it's really great. I still use it from time to time, and on commercially released stuff. Even though it's showing its age slightly, and a bit of a refresh would be welcome, I think it still holds up well as a bundle item.

Hmmmm, let me get this straight, so you guys want Cakewalk to devote all their time and resources to the stability of Sonar, and also what amounts to tweaking the interface in terms of so-called features, even though a DAW actually should be stable from day one by default and have no issues at all, and even though general functionality is already through the roof good in terms of features? But any requests for an upgrade of a 7 year old rompler are apparently unreasonable and constitutes whinging, is that right? No problem, ok, i think i can see what mentality i'm dealing with here... And for the record, any official requests i've made to Cakewalk through the specified channels over the years have never been fulfilled, and i guess hundreds of other requests from other users haven't been fulfilled either, so don't tell us to go contact Cakewalk, because Cakewalk doesn't listen, capiche? Cakewalk has its own vision and agenda, and from what i can tell (on the whole) they do not fulfill requests!!! But yes, some would say to me "vote with your feet", and i might be inclined to agree with such a statement.

Finally Cakewalk are in a position to do this with Gibsons support and now people are complaining about the old addon content being rubbish.
Just goes to show.
@drone7 "What do we have to do, turn-up with a bazooka at Cakewalk head-office and force them to do upgrades at gunpoint, what's it gonan take?" As for threatening violence in a post even jokingly in this world I think is so way over the top you should be banned.
I agree on all points-including the violence crap. BTW, I use quite a few of the basses since the tuning was fixed way back in exp pack 3. So why throw it out?????

I see, so, as long as we go quietly, don't say much, and go with the flow, then we're maybe good boys, but if we stand-up against bigotry and gang mentality and bullying and insidious gnashing off teeth, we are rogue subversives and trouble-makers worthy of the death sentence; oh hang on, yeah, that happened to Jesus too, he must have been a scum rebel trouble-maker, and he got the death sentence fore it, so he must have been scum, right? How dare he contradict the status quo! Breath God's free air while you can Mr, justice will come, it comes to everyone, sooner or later. The blind self-righteous narcissism of human nature will meet it's end, don't you worry about that, in the mean time laugh while you can and drink whisky amongst the mob, because beyond the grave it's a whole different story little boy. Is that sober enough for you?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I stand on the side of the persecuted, whose side do you stand on on?
