Personally, I'd just double the track, do a hard high-pass/low-pass on each double, and pan it.
 
But there are lots of ways to do this


Yes, many ways;

I have experimented a bit with this 'guitar technique' and it sounds great if I solo the track; (and especially when wearing headphones); 
however, the effect is just about lost in the mix.
