Resurrecting this... I have stumbled into an Ipad3 and cannot get v control to connect. (Win 7 X64 and Sonar X-2) Installed Bonjour. (this is a little step not advertised very loudly..) Installed Ney-fi (downloaded 1.7 from their site) created ad-hoc wireless network (removes router issue and authentication issues) My computer is visible in v-control select v-control as the surface and v-control in and out midi device in Sonar. And all I get is connecting.... Any thoughts ??

Its a long time since using it, but, don't you have to make soure Ney-Fii is running before opening Sonar? Might be something like that.

I always start Ney-Fi first, then Sonar, then V-Control.
In Sonar, select the Mackie Control surface and set to V-Control in and out.
Takes about 5 seconds to connect here.

Tried changing up the order a number of different ways. Ney Fi is running. I think this is a "virtual" midi issue. I tried to connect the midi device (V-Control) in Guitar Rig and the V-Control midi device shows up and I can turn on the midi in, but when I try to learn the midi key (play in V-Control to play on Guitar Rig Tape Deck) nothing happens. It sure looks liek it should work, but just does not send and receive mid data. I also notice that the little midi LED indicator widget on my system tray that comes up with Sonar, one of the LEDs is lit solid. When you guys installed the Ney Fi, did you get 3 midi devices installed ? V-Control, V-Pan L and V-Pan Right ? JR

Right .... After ney fi is installd select macki control is selected and in and outs should be v control Make sure your iPad is connected to wi fi and in the settings on v control its to whatever your computer name is .. PC-whatever the name is Is a great app ...

thanks Mooch.... I select v-control in and out and mackie control, and then I see the midi thingy showing midi out leaving Sonar...but then nothing. (my PC is selectable on the Ipad and that all works fine too) I am thinking that there are TCP or UDP ports that do get opened for IP connectivity, but whatever ports the midi traffic are supposed to go back and forth on are staying closed. I allowed V Control all access through the windows firewall. And still nothing. As the ipad does all midi wirelessly, I am really anxious to get this working. Jeff

Maybe it's something with the router set up. I have my router straight to the computer through either net hooked through an Ethernet cable. make sure the ethernet is hook to the "additional ports" not the main port.... I had that messed up the first time I used it .... And it wouldn't work... Then all I do is follow this http://forum.neyrinck.com...pic.php?f=74&t=102Other wise I don't know what else to say ...try posting on their forums .. An admin seems to always help folks out there

thanks, I am posted there too. Very weird. I am using Ad hoc connection which does use router. If it is required to have the DAW on a cable ethernet connection and use a router, that is show stopper. My DAW is wireless and obviously the Ipad is wireless too. I checked firewall on my DAW and there is nothing blocked for Bonjour and Ney Fi ...all private and public networks are wide open. Hopefully the V COntrol folks can come up with something. Thanks all. JR

Here is a link to the instructions http://www.neyrinck.com/p...ol%20Users%20Guide.pdfAnd here is what the instructions say about wi fi and ad hoc ..... Look at the last line .... Setting Up a Local Network with Wi-Fi V-Control uses the iPad’s Wi-Fi capabilities to communicate with your D.A.W. Please make sure the D.A.W. computer and the iPad are connected to the same local area network (LAN). While you can get very good performance when wirelessly connected to your host computer, you can achieve the highest levels of performance in one of the following two ways: • Configuring your host computer to use a "hard-wired" Ethernet connection to your local network • Using a direct Wi-Fi connection between the iPad and computer. o For information on setting up a direct computer-to- computer network on a Mac, see “Creating a computer-to- computer network in Mac Help. o For information on setting up a direct computer-to- computer network on Windows, look online for information about creating an “ad-hoc” Windows network.

Midi Ox to the rescue... Installed midi Ox and it could not open the V Control midi out port the first few times, kept getting an error. Tried one more time to monitor port in Midi Ox and voila everything kicked in....beautiful. Going to try and break it some more and see if I have fixed it for good or not. So it was not ipad or IP or firewalls, good old fashioned midi port issue. Thanks for all your help gents. JR

Good news! It's an awesome app. I love tht I can get an actually full screen of what's on my monitors or switch back to fader control toggles. I use it to record drums in the garage while my daw set up is in the bedroom. It's great. Enjoy

It would be nice if Sonar jumped on the bandwagon and built a Sonar specific app :) Charge £5 or something small. Just as a bonus, make it compatible with various daw's lol.

Like that Robin Williams movie where the coma patients all wake up and then go back into a Coma, my V Control is broken again and cannot get it to work. Am on the Ney forums. I see there have been other Win users who have had issue with the Bome virtual midi port drivers, usually a uninstall and re-install fixes it. I think that because of so many installs and re-installs while I have been trouble shooting wireless there is some registry garbage keeping the midi in port down. (midi out seems fine - I can see the Sonar midi LED on for the out port) if any one has midi ox installed, can you tell me if you can monitor the midi in v-control port and see midi notes when you move a slider ?? Midi ox opens the port, but that is all, there is no traffic at all. which lines up with what is happening in Sonar. JR

I don't know if you can get much better than actually having your sonar screen on a portable ipad to control things any where you can take the iPad with you in range of a wi fi. It's a pretty sweet app I mean ... There it is .. Your sonar program right there on the screen .... That's pretty Sonar friendly

Sad to say I got no help at v control forums or tech support, so I decided to take the plunge and paid the 4.99 for AC-7. ( I am super impatient....) (also - full feature is 4.99 not 50.00!) AC-7 came right up and worked first time. Did not have to use an ad-hoc network or cable anything to anything else, all wireless through my router. The midi port SW (RTPmidi I think ?) works like a charm and the ipad and DAW found each other across my wireless router in seconds. The basic transport and fader functions all work great and there is a rec button on all tracks and record start on the transport. This will be awesome for solo recording when I get the Ipad mic stand. Just want to let you all know of another option. BTW..I am still convinced that I am seeing a midi issue....AC-7 looks exactly the same trying to connect to Sonar as V-Control. I can see midi out of Sonar and midi into the app, but nothing out of the app and into Sonar. Until I hit the reset button on AC-7 I do not synch up with 2 way midi comms. in AC-7. JR

That's typical with AC7 so I wouldn't worry about it. Once AC7 connects its been solid for me. But it can be a little flaky when starting it up at first. Sometimes it takes a minute or two until the reset button connects it to a sonar session. But then it works good for me. Also, you may want to configure the mackie control surface in Sonar to send meters. I think they are off by default.

Meters are on, thanks for the tip.
The only thing for me that is not straight forward is how eq and compression and plug ins work,,,,,but that is minor for me. I do not think i will be doing too much remote plug in manipulation. For me to not have to trip over cords walking back and forth from the mic to the daw is worth 4.99!
Last night got it working with the tape deck in guitar rig.....awesome for practicing.
Thanks

Bit of a change here, and I know most of you here on this thread have an ipad working to your DAW....but now that I have the Ipad working with a wireless virtual midi, I started trying out free versions of other different apps. Found one that I think you all will enjoy. Soundprism Pro. The freebie does not have midi out capabilities, but if you like what the free version does, the pro for 4.99 is amazing. Hard to explain how it works, but it just works and is very cool. I have had it controlling all kinds of softsynths in Sonar and standalone synths on my DAW (Rapture, Dimension, Komplete, etc.) Add arpeggiators etc. and it is frickin' amazing. ( you can even split different touch sensors to different midi channels to go even crazier) Any rate check it out. JR
