Hello,

I am putting up my attempt to do some blue-eyed soul.

It's pumped a bit as I thought that was traditional for this genre but i don't really know....

Groovy piano bass-line! Snap - snap go my fingers... Vox could come up a bit in the beginning Rick. ( They seemd at a better level further into the song) Drums sound good to me especially the intro! I'm thinkin' my favorite from you so far... Really nice vocal harmonies. Hey! Where's the lyrics??? A little less compression/limiter on the mix ( just a hair) I'm held captive by that paino line!! I really like the 'jump start' backing vocals and the verb used on them. Excellent creation! Yeah, yep, yes..It is my favorite from you!! I cranked this a bit (without the wife getting mad at me for drowning out her cooking shows on the tube) there's a lo of nice percussion 'touches' on this that caught my ear. Good one!

i dont uderstand? (please keep in mind not understanding comes
    easy for me).

    Creighton Hack ~bass

    i dont hear a bass.

its a groovey tune. i listened to the frist half twice. second time
seems there is a bass in there but barely. something about this tune
    is allready growing on me.

its got that kind of make you "think about it" appeal. add some
stuff like a horn section and some cool guitar and tweek the mix
and "man alive" talk about coolness?

    Larry~
I brought vox up a tad in first half. i also added more lower mids to bass to fill out. just crank tune, grab the little mrs., tell her something else is cookin' now, spin'er around a bit and do the soulful strutt.
Thank you for the ears!.........ps...lyrics are up.

    Jimmy~
I went in and filled out the lower mids a bit with Creighton's bassline. I was basically playing the piano part so it wasn't that easy to hear before. i probably have it TOO loud now
Yeah, a guitar line would be sweet but i don't want to ruin the groove, which i probably will do with a guitar line...Thank you for the helpful critique!!!

Rick--I think you just found the box. Or A box anyway. This is GREAT! I love it! I have no crits, cause I was just kickin' back and enjoying those great lyrics, your cool voice and that great piano bass line, and well, everything else! (that bass line might be just a tiny bit loud in some places, but not sure.) This is just cool! Fits together so well. That sax is great. Well, heck, it's all great. I love it!

    Rick,
This one is already a classic! I love the arrangement. Really cool groove. Great lyrics man! It has all the right ingredients for a hit. The mix is pretty good as far as levels are concerned. The bass could use a little more definition. Maybe cut the lows a bit and add a bit of 250-300k to it. There is a LOT of compression on the overall mix (too much IMO). It's especially noticeable on the symbols (swooshing sound) and tambourine. Love the harmony. It's a well thought out tune, and very catchy!

    Yo Rick,

Really tasty and catchy riff/groove number, here. I really like the spare arrangement and the subversive lyrics.

I'm not really good at this sort of thing, but you may have put a little too much snot(comp/lim) on the mix.

    Cheers,

and character but i dont hear so much a fix as a point of wondering
    what we all hear.

but then again ill have to turn on my subs. havent done that in

Heeeey, Ive dated that girl. Love the simplicity of this tune and the piano riff is so cool. Nice full sounding mix for not having a guitar fill, thats a nice change of pace. Your vox and harmonies are just perfect as usual. Do I hear a sax, and I like the sound of that splash cymbal, very cool. Love the change at 3:30 kind of a BEATLES meets SQUEEZE vibe. I loved everything about this tune from the structure to the performance. KUDOS, my friend!

Love the words, and the vibe, and the production, the little things, like the bass sax accents, the way that tambo comes in, and the shaker, the way the vox play off of each other. 5 stars from moi :-)

    Jimmy~
Yes, sir...i went immediately and fleshed out that bass, (Good Call!). I'm going to add more compression to the bass to give more definition as per Darin. Thank you for the re-listen!

    Hello Janet~
Thank you for the listen. I lowered the bass a bit from your comments and hopefully all is well.

    Darin~
I'm glad this one is working. It's a couple ideas that I've had haunting me for a long time. I'll add some compression to bass for definition and relax the limiter on the master buss a bit. Thank you for the listen!....(eagerly waiting another gem from you)

    Hello Bert~
I'm going to pull back a bit on the limiter to relieve some compression. THank you for the listen and notes!

    Shad~
You're saying i've got a BIG BOTTOM????????? I'm going to focus on relinquishing some of it while adding compression to define it better.
    Thanks!

    Warren~
Oooohhhh, I'm sooooo glad you like Moo Moo.....i was crazy about her. It's a nickname of someone. I'm doing good if this one comes close to it for you. Thank you for the listen and boost!

Very interesting use of musical instrumentation. I really like the Piano line ... it just works so well. Sax is especially well worked into the mix as well. Very effective!!! Man I suffer from this same problem, though, but that Cymbal is a tad strong on the right.

Hello and thanks for coming by to listen. Yes, it probably has a kind of 70's white boy soul like Hall and Oates or one of those other type vocal groups...but not quite

    TAP~
It's funny...but the entire song is built off that silly piano riff. It drove the entire piece...the power of groove!
Thanks for the notes on the cymbol...i'll see if i can tame it...it's all mixed in the drums as a whole.

What a funky (as was said in the '60's) song! I don't have much else to add that hasn't been said. However, this number made me want to keep listening from the very get-go. The vocals were absolutely great and the harmonies added all the right soulful accents to this song.

I enjoyed listening to it. Thanks for posting it.

fantastic funky jam song with amazing vocals! That piano bass part is catchy indeed. Seems you've doubled it with a synth or tenor sax or something that makes it a bit too bassy. Id prefer only piano doing that bass line. But could be my setup or something too (I use cheap stuff). It's impossible not to feel good listening to this song! Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.

    Mike~
It's the bass that doubles with the piano line in the verses...Yes, i should make it more open and let the piano handle that line alone and just hit the basic quater notes with the bass...i am glad you commented on that..i wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Thank you so much for listening!....and i REALLY dig "My Life Is Ordinary".

Top notch ... extremely well recorded and well mixed vocs.

I Love your catchy lyrics, bold rhythm, and 2:15 chorus.

(What drum strategy did you use?)

Trouble ... I hope you can easily fix these:
    * 2:33 vox spiked the meters.
    * Uh oh, again ... 2:53 to 3:20 ish sounds like there's vox clipping.

Rick this is astonishing, punchy, sweet and wide dynamics ... befitting a 'jump start'. Don't lose the potent and catchy vox and rhythm techniques you have here!

    Hey, Rick,

This is really smoooooth, but very lively! Great dance groove and the vocals and harmonies sound great over the instruments. That cool piano bass line carries the flow of the song nicely from beginning to end.

    Great job!
