Hi.  I just purchased Korg's nanoKontrol as my first control surface and I've run into a problem with it.  The product installs fine, the driver is ok and the device works in the Korg editor however, when I try to assign it as an input device in Sonar the program (Sonar) just hangs solid.  Can anyone offer any advice?  Thanks!  Jim

I am running Win XP (SP2), Sonar HS 4.0, Korg Driver 1.14_r12 and the editor is version 0150.

Hi N88, I'm assuming you have a Nanokontrol2.......you can try this:

    1. Hold the set marker and rec buttons while connecting the USB cable from your computer.
    2. Open the MIDI device window in Sonar, then select nanoKONTROL2 for Input and Output.
    3. Open the Controllers/Surfaces window, then select Mackie Control for Control Surface.
    4. Select nanoKONTROL2 for the MIDI In/Out ports used.

This should work.
Cheers,
Mesh

Thanks Mesh.  Actually I do have the nanoKontrol - not the nano2, but I'll like to give this a try.  Any idea what the equivalent to the set marker is on the nanoKontrol?  Thanks - Jim

Hi Jim,
After reading your post, I'm also going to get my Nanokontrol1 (NK1) out of storage and try to set it up one of these days......just moved and setting up my home studio.

I found this old tutorial on setting it up and may help you: http://www.untidymusic.com/wordpress/using-sonar/setting-up-nanokontrol-sonar

Here's some other useful links for Nanokontrol: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Korg-nanoKontrol-Buttons-LED39s-Staying-ON-HOW-m1669089.aspx

Thanks - I appreciate your help.  I tried a bunch of things, but to no avail so I'm returning the unit.  I suspect that there is something with Sonar HS 4.0 not allowing it to work.  It was an experiment and maybe after my next upgrade I'll invest in another.  Jim

Sorry to hear that Jim.
Of note, when I was on Sonar X1 & X2, I did get it to work quite well........I'm not sure if/why HS 4.0 would have any limitation to using this? Possibly someone else can chime in on this.....

Anyway, best of luck and get X3 (if your machine can handle it)........it's a matured product that simply delivers. :))

I suspect the problem may be with XP(SP2), more than SHS4.
SP3 really put the shine on XP, and made it the OS that many of us gave up kicking and screaming.
Many drivers rely on elements of SP3 to run properly, and my guess is that this is the root of your problem.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has finally put the kabosh on XP, and I doubt that you can even update to SP3 at this point in time.
While I share Meshes recommendation for X3, IT WILL NOT INSTALL in XP.
An overall system upgrade would be well worth it.
I started out with SHS4, and it was a great program in its day, but a lot of really cool stuff has happened since then.

Thank you both for your help.  When I'm done with my current project I may look into upgrading.

I have a Nanokontrol.  I have it setup as a Cakewalk Generic Surface in Sonar X3 and everything works.
