The speakers only have RCA? We ll we may need to talk about monitors next... lol.
 
But the 2i2 will work well. Using some adapters to make the connection would be worth it just to know you have a good, solid interface with proper drivers that will be supported for a long time.
 
Then again I don't really trust anything iThing when it comes to making music so I (or should I say "i") may be biased.

I would purchase a set of RCA to 1/4"  cables as adapters are a source of trouble sometimes.

Yeah, Im a bit sceptical against iTrack.
You hace convinced me! Im going with 2i2.

I mixed a whole album through my home stereo and crappy consumer headphones years ago and everyone that was involved thought it sounded great. I listen to it now after a few years of doing things the "right way" (kind of) and it is definitely flawed BUT it served it purpose back so that's all that matters.
 
One thing I am about to purchase is a Focusrite VRM Box which is a virtual monitoring system you use with headphones. It basically creates software based environments with various virtual speakers so you can cross check your mixes with. Certainly no replacement for a properly treated room with fancy monitors but kind of a cool thing to have for the folks working at home. They're only $100.
 
Also some of the more elaborate Focusrite interfaces have this feature built right into them now but it's probably better purchased separately.

Unfortunately no (aside from I think some elaborate routing/techniques/external hardware creating destructive effects on the track).
 
Are you having latency or dropout problems while monitoring through Sonar? You should be able to track through Sonar with a couple light effects (not using the direct monitoring) without any issues if you have a half decent system.
 
There are certain effects that are REALLY resource intensive and should not be used while tracking (only while mixing). Also to free up computer resources (if that is the problem) use the Sonar Freeze function on any synths or effects heavy tracks that you are not currently recording into.

I have always had a small delay/latency when activating "Listen to this device" in windows 7 sound settings.
I think it was better in Windows XP.
 
Is there some setting to fix the latency with 2i2?

I have been informed that the 2i2 does not come with the same ScarlettMix software I have with the 18i6 however there must be a way to change the buffer settings on it. I would recommend giving the 2i2's manual a read to find where you can change the ASIO buffer setting.
 
Otherwise in Sonar go to Edit > Preferences > Audio-Driver and click ASIO Control Panel (or whatever that button says... I forget) and it SHOULD open whatever is controlling the 2i2. From there you just look for where you can increase or decrease your buffers (in MixControl you just click Settings and it gives you a list of buffers in milliseconds... the lower the number the lower the latency... the higher the number the less strain is put on your system which avoids dropouts and other problems)
 
You should also make sure you only have the 2i2 selected as your ASIO input device in Sonar Preferences but that is all described in the Tutorials section of the Sonar manual (which you may want to take a look at as well because it could help you solve a lot of issues regarding setting up interfaces and whatnot).
 
Anyway... you will probably do much better with the 2i2. It'll just take a bit of fiddling to get it set up.
 
Read the 2i2 manual and read the Sonar Tutorial in the manual and all should become clear.

Is it possible to turn up the mic level when recording with "Direct Monitor".
I know how to turn up the recordning level of the mic but I just want to hear my voice better in the headphones while record.

You might try this. Buy a TOROID filter from an electronics store. It comes as a "split apart" device. Put three wraps of you computer's power input cord through it and close the filter up "snap back together." This filter is less than ten bucks but well worth it. As a "ham" radio operator I can attest to the value of it.
