• SONAR
  • SONAR X3e - no V-Vocal anymore. So.... use Melodyne?

I see that X3e no longer has v-vocal.  I used that for a project or two with good results, so, rats.  So what now, Melodyne?  I'll have to figure that out or come up with something similar...  Any thoughts?

Thanks!! -Dave

Hi. IIRC, V-Vocal was included up til X2 (or X1). You have to do a (minimal) installation of one of the older versions, if you want to keep using it.
All the best.

So, run, say X1 install, and there will an option for minimal?  I never tried that but I'll give it a go tonight!  Thanks again, -Dave

P.S.  Or am I just going back to something that's best done with something else these days??

Yes. Click Advanced Install when the install dialog pops up.
You have to install X1 as well as V-Vocal. Just check those, then install.

Thanks Ken, yes I saw that v-vocal was not an option in the plugins section on an X1 Advanced install.  My intention was not to install a full X1 because I didn't know how it would **** up my X3e install that's running great, so I didn't take a chance on the "program files" or "bundle" (x1) checkmarks.  No biggy, I don't **NEED** v-vocal, it's just that it was handy to have on another project in the past and thought it might be in the future.  If I were to fully install something, it might be SONAR v8.5 - and THAT might also get me v-voc.  I have no idea if the two (v8.5 and X3e) can live together on the same computer.

btw/ how do you make those awesome animated gifs??!!

Thanks, -Dave

V-Vocal was included with Sonar 5 through X2, but you would need to install one of those versions of Sonar to get the V-Vocal installed.

The good news is that you can generally install two versions of Sonar side by side.  Take your pick.

There is some validity to issues with installing versions in reverse order. I went back to reinstall something with X1 after installing X1->Platinum and the fonts for my staff view went FUBAR (there is a thread here on it, and I was sent a file (TTSNOTE.ttf) that fixed it). If attempting such, I would  recommend creating a restore point first and copying all shared files to another location before the installation. You should then be able to copy the shared files back to replace any that X1 overwrites.

As to the gif above, Reaper has a free utility that does screen captures (as gifs) called LICEcap. You will still need a picture hosting site to post them, but they are very convenient at times.

When I re-did my DAW awhile back I installed X1, X2, X3 & SPlat in that order with all options. I have all four but I only use SPlat. I DO have V-Vocal but have found Melodyne more musical on vocals. (V-Vocal is better for tweaking lead guitar.) My org install was Win 7 but I finally caved yesterday and upped to Win 10. All is still well in 10 with all updates. There were a few hiccups along the way but thas to be expected.
