  • HELP! Must Uninstall EZ Drummer 2

Sorry for starting a related thread, but EZ Drummer 2 has destroyed my system.  I need to roll back.

The problem is that, for some bizarre reason, System Protection was turned off on my PC, and Windows won't let me pick the option to turn on Restore Systems Settings and Files (and it's too late anyway since I don't have a restore point).

Toontrack is not posting my support forum entries--they are hung up waiting for moderation.

How can I uninstall EZ Drummer 2 but keep EZ Drummer 1 which is on lots of projects?

At this point, I am hosed.  Sonar is crashing, projects won't output audio, I can't freeze or unfreeze synths, etc.  This is a major disaster.  Please help.

Try to uninstall it from the control panel, and if you uninstalled EZ 1, just reinstall it...

Thanks, but a question.

If I have EZ Drummer 1 in a project, it gets uninstalled and then reinstalled, will it still be there and OK when I open the Sonar project.  That is my fear.  i CANNOT afford to corrupt the album that needs to go the mastering engineer next week and which I am finishing mixing.

Thanks again for answering.

your midi data should still be on the track I would think.

Do you have EZD1 32bit installed with the 64bit version?

Reason I ask, is that when I had my trouble with EZD2 I tried to uninstall it, but it wouldn't really uninstall. After I thought I uninstalled EZD2, and went back in X3 to use EZD, the EZD2 GUI came up wanting to be authorized. So I tried to uninstall EZD and uninstalled the 64bit version first. When I tried to install EZD again, it kept telling me I had to install the 32bit version first, which was already installed.

I had a backup image from a week before that I used to restore. That was the only way I got it going.

I really don't know what to say except proceed with caution.

Thanks very much.  I CANNOT BELIEVE Toontrack is not addressing this.  If they don't step up pretty quickly, I will never buy another product from them.

EZDrummer woes here too - with v1 - !  Without warning, without having added ANYTHING to the computer, no changes - suddenly projects with EZD1 wouldn't open.  I would open projects in safe mode, skip EZ1, and the projects would load - Go back to trying to include EZD, again with Sonar crashing and not loading the projects.  So I tried opening in Safe Mode again, deleting the original instance of EZD, then adding a new instance - no go - Sonar would crash.

I uninstalled SD, reinstalled it - Now Sonar refuses to even see SD.  Over and over the Plugin Manager just skips it, so SD isn't even an available choice.

Then I thought of a desperate work around.  I opened my ancient copy of Sonar Home Studio 6 - and I couldn't believe it worked.  EZD was in the list of synths available, it worked perfectly fine - So I made a MIDI copy of a project, imported it in HM6, bounced the SD tracks, imported those into X3.

What a drag!-- Looks like this will have to be my work around from now on when I want to use EZD!

WHAT in Hades happened to suddenly make X3 reject SD like that?????

Note - I would have tried that work around with Sonar 8.5 but it wont' open now, was killed when I installed X3 - another subject entirely that I've brought up several times and nobody has an answer to.

I am responding to konradh's post on that states:

I too am having the same issue with ezdrummer 2 (exactly as you described) and I can tell you for a fact that it is not a Toontrack issue.  It is a conflict within sonar that is causing the problem.

The problem is quite simply that EZDrummer 1 had 8 stereo outs and EZDrummer 2 has 16. For some reason Sonar can not deal with the updated EZDrummer changing its number of outputs. Every other host that Toontrack supports can and does not have a problem with this.

While this is not the answer I wanted to hear unfortunately it is true.  I was told by Sweetwater tech support to uninstall ezdrummer2 and reinstall ezdrummer 1.  I think the reinstall only works if you find the .dll that the new installation of ezdrummer1 creates and direct sonar to that and not the ezdrummer2 .dll which will still exist in your vst folder.  I am going to delete any .dll files I can find associated with ezdrummer.

Anyway, I will be doing the uninstall and reinstall and trying to get a refund back from Sweetwater because who knows when cakewalk will provide a fix to this.  It is a shame because it is impossible to get a drummer to record live.  ezdrummer has always served me well and I hoped to get more out of it with the upgrade.

Oh noes. . I have been a long time EZD user and a new SONAR user.  I was using the EZD2 demo fine in another sequencer (Reaper), but when I opened a new project in SONAR and created an instrument track, SONAR crashed.  This is the first time this has happened out of about 4 times doing this.

Also, the EZD2 stopped playing any output in a Reaper project.  I had to restart the application to get it to work.

I think there are problems on both sides of the fence.

TO the OP I think you will be fine if you uninstall EZD2 and reinstall EZD1.  Make sure you have sonar pick up the VSTi path before you open the projects.
