Hi all,
Retiring my old Mackie 24 X8, and am researching Control surfaces.  The AVID/Euphonix Artist Control & or Artist Mix seem interesting.  Any experiences / horror stories? 
 
New topic.. Also, considering Dynaudio BM5A monitors based on a recomendation.  Any owners with feedback?

I have been thinking that some one at Roland/Cakewalk probably has an idea that it will be good to produce a controller that has hardware knobs that are dedicated to ProChannel efx layouts in a fashion similar to the near total integration you get with many TDM plug ins and a Digi design controller while running Pro Tools.


I am also thinking that some one at Roland/Cakewalk probably has an idea that hardware controllers are about to be replaced by Windows 8 and touch screen control.




I don't use a controller on my SONAR DAW because my rig doesn't have have enough hardware acceleration to prevent the act of control from feeling lethargic and sluggish. The system runs great but the over all scheme relies on a big buffer to let me add all the mix down plugins and such and have them run smoothly. I have adopted an adjust then listen sort of approach and it seems more effective than trying to mix "real time" with a big latency lag.


Hopefully some folks that do use, and enjoy their controllers with SONAR will stop by offer you some specific info.

Unfortunately none of the current control surfaces are integrating flawlessly in the Sonar X series.
My Tascam is still very "usable", but as Tascam indicated that Win 7 will be the last supported OS, and Win 8 changes the firewire protocol once again, the Tascam will no doubt soon be obsolete.
I keep hoping that the VS-700 will become the Sonar "flagship" again, or that full Mackie support will once again be "important" to Cake.
But, it looks like "touch" will be the wave of the future.
I guess in future we will all have a flat screen on the desktop for the Console view.

X2a improved the integration of Sonar and VS-700 a lot. VS-700 might be back on its way to become the Sonar "flagship" again ...

AVID ARTIST work and System 5-MC

SSl Nucleus should work and some controls you need to program it yourself. SSl Nucleus have better build quality than ARTIST Series.
SSl Nucleus controller are exactly the same controll panel you find at SSL MATRIX except for the layout.

This is the future; Pre mapped physical knobs that are mapped to ProChannel dsp modules with consistency so that the knobs can be labeled for specific roles... just like on this current production Roland digital control mixer:








I think we are going to have to endure touch hysteria for a few years before what Roland is doing now becomes the future.
