  • X3e - Zoom using Z+Click/drag Still Not Working Correctly [Some Discoveries]

Keni
Just to start the ball rolling. I just opened X3e for the first time and tried this first...

It is still useless... The zoom changes the horizontal, but the vertical is not following....

Not an overall opinion or attitude, but the most in my face issue for me... Is still the most in my face issue.

<sigh>

I find the following in the documentation:

To zoom horizontally Do one of the following:

Click the horizontal zoom buttons to zoom in or out by a fixed percentage each time you click.

Drag the horizontal zoom fader to zoom in or out by the amount you drag.

Hold down the CTRL key and press the right arrow key (to zoom in) or the LEFT ARROW key (to zoom out).

Point the mouse pointer at the top half of the Clips pane or Piano Roll view time ruler, then drag up/down.

To zoom vertically do one of the following:

Click the vertical zoom buttons to zoom in or out by a fixed percentage each time you click.

Drag the vertical zoom fader to zoom in or out by the amount you drag.

Hold down the CTRL key and press the UP ARROW key (to zoom out) or the DOWN ARROW key (to zoom in).

Point the mouse pointer at the top half of the Clips pane or Piano Roll view time ruler, then click with the right mouse button and drag up/down.

To zoom into a selected area use the Zoom tool to drag-select an area of a clip or clips that you want to zoom to.

To activate the Zoom tool, hold down the Z key. When you release the mouse, the area you selected expands to fill the Clips pane window.

Zoom command keyboard shortcuts:

To do this, use this shortcut

Zoom in vertically - CTRL+DOWN ARROW

Zoom in horizontally - CTRL+RIGHT ARROW

Zoom out vertically - CTRL+UP ARROW

Zoom out horizontally - CTRL+LEFT ARROW

Undo Zoom - ALT+Z

Redo Zoom - ALT+SHIFT+Z

Turn On Zoom tool - Hold down Z

Fit project to window - SHIFT+F

Fit tracks/buses to window - F

Full Screen mode - F11

To zoom using the mouse wheel (Fast Zoom) - Hold down the ALT key and roll the mouse wheel forward to zoom in, backward to zoom out.

Hold down ALT+SHIFT to intensify mouse wheel zoom effect.

Hold down ALT+CTRL to adjust track scale (Track View Clips Pane only)

To select Fast Zoom options

1. Click the Track view Options menu and choose Zoom Options.
2. Select the intensity of the Zoom effect in Zoom Factor by using the spinners or manually entering a value.
3. Select the vertical and horizontal Zoom focus.
4. Check or uncheck Simultaneous Vertical and Horizontal Zoom.
The default is for Simultaneous Vertical and Horizontal Zoom to be checked. If you uncheck it, Fast Zoom exhibits the following behaviors.
    ALT+Mouse Wheel zooms vertically
    ALT+SHIFT+Mouse Wheel zooms faster vertically
    CTRL+ALT+Mouse Wheel zooms horizontally
    CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+Mouse Wheel zooms faster horizontally
5. Click OK.

I hope that helps,

Hi Bob...

Yeah... thanks... I know about the various options, but holding the Z and click/dragging a location has always been the most expedient for me...

I just discovered that if I un-hide all my hidden tracks, zoom works fine again... While not a solution, at least it might help find a fix... I need to report this to the Bakers...

What's interesting is that after exposing and re-hiding tracks, the zoom comes a little closer to correct. Now it zooms the correct time range, but zooms the adjacent tracks as well... but at least it's larger....

Something weird about the hidden track/track manager issue...

Hi Keni . . . I'm also a disappointed and frequent user of this Zoom - Drag mouse feature . . . and you've completely nailed it ! . . . it just doesn't work when there are many hidden tracks properly. (Un-hide all tracks and it works again)
I've tested it and got the same result as you, when you re-hide the tracks, it's better, but still not correct.

Guess this is a tricky fix for Cakewalk, or it would have been fixed in X3e ?
My workaround (Alt-mouse scroll wheel) will have to suffice until X4 HOPEFULLY ADDDRESSES THIS ISSUE.

Yeah... I guess this one must be tricky... It sure is a pain not having it working... I know it's been discussed since it appeared with the crossover From Layers to Lanes... So I'm sure they're aware of it...

I was hoping that it was fixed and simply not listed as many things often are.... but I guess not.

I kept wondering why it works fine in my mastering setup, but not in these songs.... Where I always have hidden tracks of many kinds and reasons...

My work around is a pain, but it's the only thing I seem to be able to do in a controlled (comfortable) way... I dbl-click the track controls to max the vertical zoom, then drag either the timeline zoom or the zoom slider... I get what I want, but I'm all over the screen to get there...

Note that having collapsed folders seems to have the same effect (ie. The wrong track(s) get zoomed).

Thanks for mentioning that one too... I alluded to it in the opening remarks I think... I remembered we had discovered a relationship between folders and zoom but couldn't remember exactly what we found...

It seems that when they are collapsed they are sort of "hidden"... Maybe the problem is the same as the actual hidden tracks?

I wanted to add some of this info to the bug report I filed... I thought I remembered being able to do this but I couldn't find any way to do so....

CW is already aware of a collapsed folder being one of the culprits (check the link in my previous post...)

If you open the ticket, you'll find a "Send a Message" box at the bottom. If you want to attach a file, there's a Submit File button just above the Send a Message box.

That's what I remembered, but is no longer see such a box... The page I'm given is all text with nothing active?
