Hi Gang...

This is an older item that I reported and it has been termed "as intended"...

Does anyone else find this very counter productive or at least uncomfortable?
This is very uncomfortable for me... It means there is no shortcut to toggle PRV snap on and off and requires moving the mouse from where I'm working to the prv-snap control and back far too often...

I don't understand why they have decided this should be how it works.... Previously, using the N key toggled snap.... Not just TV snap, but all snap. If you toggle PRV snap off, snap reverts to the Global snap, so I must do both, disable Global snap as well as turn off PRV snap...

I suspect the issue here may have been that there wasn't full steps here to reproduce the issue, if I was in Cake QA I may have had so many problem reports I would take one look, realise I haven't got the time to work it out, and move onto something I could replicate easily without having to think that much (trying to pre-think what somebody is doing is really time consuming).

Check out post #11 for instance for good steps to reproduce (I'm afraid you have to spend a bit of time on it so others don't have to, i.e. make them idiot proof):
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Still-some-issues-with-MIDI-crosstalk-but-now-there-is-an-easy-workaround-m2954622.aspx#2963626

Having said that... I see:
X3bStatus:Feature Request

So they made this into a feature request so technically not terminated?
Anyway there you go...

Cheers..

Hi Alex...

Thanks for looking... Somehow I knew I could count on you responding with something along those lines... ;-)

What can I say... I believe I've been dealing with the Cake team for a long time and those steps are all that are needed to show the problem... I'm sorry you don't understand me, but I believe they do...

I am not here on the forum to post recipes... I did that recently just for you... Most other people seem to understand me very well...

I have been a programmer as well as an engineer for many decades as well as a musician and beta tester...

If you are in PRV and disable Global snap, it does not disable PRV snap... and if you leave Global snap enabled, disabling PRV snap only forces snap to obey the Global settings...

I really don't think there is any simpler way to say that... I'm open to talk tho...

Yeah I know I'm too predictable  :) Some will understand what you are saying and others won't. It's generally best to get your point across to everybody, if anything those who don't understand will get some education out of it.

Hi Keni,

The "N" key should override all snap settings unless it is bound to PRV Snap override in Keybindings. Open Preferences - Advanced - Customization - Keyboard shortcuts. Drill down the Area picker and choose Piano Roll View. Make sure "N" is not bound to "PRV Snap override." This setting just turns PRV snap off and leaves global snap on.

If the problem persists, there may be a step between 1 and 2 that is causing override to fail that is not in your description or a particular setting or configuration that is causing the issue.

See, Dan understands :)

The issue was introduced in X3 and Loptec reported it when it was X3b. Fortunately, X3c fixed it. However, it made grid lines work incorrectly, which still hasn't been fixed.

If someone has already reported the grid lines issue to CW, reply here so that I don't have to have them investigate the same issue again (Loptec? Brundlefly?)

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, follow these steps:

1. Lord the Normal project template.
2. Hit Alt+3 to open the PRV.
3. Enable the PRV snap button if not enabled, and set the snap setting to "1/16" if set to something else. Make sure the grid lines in the PRV are displayed correctly.
4. Set the global snap (in the Control Bar) to "1/4" if set to something else.
5. Hit 'n' once (this will disable the global snap).
6. Hit 'n' again (this will re-enable the global snap).

[Expected Results]
PRV retains the 1/16 grid lines.

[Actual Results]
PRV changes the grid lines as if "1/4" has been selected in the PRV snap setting (when it is still set to "1/16").

Your steps confirmed Jlien at my end (although step 1A should be add MIDI track, my template for instance is blank :) ), is there an issue number?
Thanks...

I've just submitted it (CWBRN-23133).

(Btw, the "Normal" project template in my Sonar X has always contained one audio track and one MIDI track by default. Looks like it's different in the Producer version. I must remember that. Thanks.)
