• SONAR
  • Sonar X3 standard - Volume Sliders Jumping

I'm new to Sonar X3 (standard), and I'm experiencing an issue when I adjust the channel volume, gain, and master volume, the sliders want to jump to either full on or full off - like a magnet. This happens when I adjust these parameters in the Track section and in the Console view, regardless of the X3 sequencer running or not. With great care and finesse I can usually "trick" the slider into a setting between the two extremes, but this is really annoying and time consuming, workflow wise.

I assume I have a wrong setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Hope someone can point out what I'm missing here. Thanks!

(Windows 8.1, Dell I7, 16gb, latest patches for all cards, apps and OS, everything else seems to work perfectly...)

PS - searched these forums but couldn't find a similar post.

I needed to tune the touch features in the OS (like MOUSE parameters except for TOUCH).... SONAR works fine with touch once you setup the touch monitor to respond correctly.  I forget where these settings are in OS but you can search the NET for adjusting touch parameters in WIN 8 and find the required info.

sounds like your in offset mode, click the "O" on your keyboard, that's the letter, its the shortcut to turn off offset mode.
its almost as if they snap when ever you click on them.

Yup. I'm having the exact same problem and I've tried both suggestions to no avail.
I've got HP Envy i7, 8gb Ram, Win 8, Sonar X3

go to views, event list.
make sure there is no automation happening as well.
if you accidentally made some automation this will surely make it difficult to set any parameters with out them jumping around.

Thanks for the try Charlie but I started a brand new project with no events, automation, etc. These are "glitch type" jumps and there's a jump(on sliders in Inspection) from 0 value to Max value when I double click a slider and the pointer shoots up to the left. Also 4 little white bracket corners appear around the slider. When I double click again the value goes back to 0. When I double click off the slider the brackets go away. When I click and hold a slider and try and move it nothing happens.
Same thing when I try to move the volume or Gain by the track.
This screwed up my weekend. Can't really do much without volume control.

Read this thread I started about the same problem I am having and what I found out that is causing the problem: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Sonar-X3d-and-my-Mouse-m2961743.aspx

As a workaround, I'm holding down the shift key while moving these controls with the mouse wheel. I hope Cakewalk gets it resolve.

You definitely made my day. I had my display set to larger text. brought it down to 125% default and no more jumping sliders. Works beautiful!
Thnx!

Thanks for all the helpful input and ideas guys!  I finally found the time to give some of these suggestions a try, and found what appears to be my solution - and hopefully it will help others.

For me, the answer was the adjustment of the Text Enlargement in Windows 8.1 Control Panel/Personalization.  Having a new larger monitor with higher rez, I had attempted to increase the text size for improved legibility. Evidently, Sonar X3d doesn't care for this idea!  So I returned my text size to 125% (recommended), rebooted the box. and all appears to be working as expected! (knock wood!)

Now Cakewalk needs to address this bug for future patching!

Thanks again for all your help everyone!

Chuck,

The "O" for offset mode is just too EZ to set accidentally.  Forgot all about it, and what a PITA it is when you mixed half of the track in NORMAL mode and the other half in OFFSET mode.....

I don't even know what OFFSET mode does except I don't like it. :-)
