I think the maintenance getting up to date would be the logical place to start, as if it is those run-time redistributable Microsoft routines, that would be a quick fix, and in any case should be done.

Exactly, and #4.
And we are still looking for errors in the event viewer.
We would need to get dependency viewer utilty out later to see if it is a library issue assuming the issue persists.
Cheers.

Sorry Jimmy I'm a .Net developer, I actually run a full developer environment with Visual Studio away from my DAW, and you are wrong here... Check you windows services for instance.

Look I don't mean to hijack any thread or anything, I won't respond anymore, I'll participate when I have issues - I'm simply offering an alternative way to diagnose for yourself a windows process dump - albeit it is in the advanced realms of troubleshooting and sure it is best suited to be used by the developer - sits fine by me...

For the purpose of my own understanding Alex, could you please tell me which service you are referring to here?

Jimmy another day, Windows debugging threads are a whole other thing, and besides it's time for bed.... I'm not saying you aren't trying to be helpful but installing developers debugging utilities on consumer PC's is whole different ballgame. That would be a last resort type thing and really it's best left to developers. We don't have the symbols or debug edition of Sonar and there's probably a better a way of fixing this issue. It's a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Cheers..

OK wow.... I went and watched "Freebirds" with my kids.  Very disappointing, to be honest.  Much too dark for a kids movie.  Anyway all of you all are much smarter than me.  A couple of notes:

- I'm not crazy concerned about this because it's not stopping me from working, it only happens the rare times I close Sonar.  But I would like to know why it's happening.

- There were a bunch of other crashes from Sonar I could post, if it would help.  At least 20-30.  Just hard to tell which ones were from closing the program except the one I posted.  Keep in mind I am dealing with a brand new PC, new OS, new software, and trying to reinstall and authorize a plethora of plugins and synths, there have been a good amount of crashes.

- As it turns out Windows Update was disabled.  Computer is only a week old, not something I thought to check.  Downloading 500MB of updates now.  Will that solve my problem?

- I'm 99.9% sure all of my audio drivers, video drivers, firmware, and plugins are up-to-date as I just installed everything last week and nothing from disk, downloaded the latest of everything.

- I was happy to download the debugging tools until being told not to.  I'm not smart enough to know the difference.

- I know it is but my computer is grumpy about being called a "consumer" PC it's custom built and cost a small fortune.

The age of the machine may not be an indication of the age of the software installed on it. If the builders are available and support their machines, maybe give them a call and ask them about the errors and warnings you are seeing in the event viewer. Might also be worth a call to Cakewalk tech support. When I got a new machine (now a year old ) I routinely checked the event viewer early on so I could establish a baseline for what to expect. It rarely has errors or warnings and I can account for all of them without any special diagnostic tools.

Just installed 141 (!) updates, will restart now.  I'll update you if still crashing tomorrow....

Hope it works out! I recently had to do a total OS re-install, too.

Seems like about 8 times out of 10 when I close Sonar I get the message "SONARPDR.EXE has stopped working".  Anyone else get this?  I haven't been crashing at all.... or much, anyway.  And it really doesn't seem to affect much except that when I relaunch Sonar it doesn't remember my recent projects....

You have the same problem as I have:-
