since i'm still not able to get the bank select feature to work
 
when i click on the track patch option none is checked 
clicking on the inspector's patch option shows only the general midi patches

have tried 
loading the wk7500 definition found here

loading the psr740 definition  from the yamaha.ins file found here
C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X3 Producer\Instruments
 
during each of these experiments the master.ins file does reflect the changes made via the preferences midi instruments define import options
 
deleting the master.ins @ C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer and only importing the wk7500 ins file
 
 
after taking the above actions with no successful outcome i'm wondering if there is a way to set sonar back to the way it was when first installed like a factory reset procedure

Try re-personalizing by holding the Ctrl and Shift keys when starting SONAR.

this did not solve the problem or revert to what a fresh install of sonar looked like 
it retained the modified control bar configuration and vst can count
 
it did reset the midi instrument assignment yamaha 740, which also showed no bank select patches, but when i  re assigned the wk7500 still no love
 
i'll try cakewalk support next week and if successful will report back
