I opened a support ticket because I'm seeing some weird problems with X3 where if I try to control a fader or a pot on the skylight interface with the mouse, the movement is real jerky, but if I use the scroll wheel or even the touch screen it's fine.  I thought it was my mouse drivers, so I installed the latest from Logitech, but got the same thing.

I'm also seeing all kinds of weird video glitches, like where I open a project and the font size gets real small and it takes me out of full screen and opens in a small window, then if I resize the window there are all kinds of video trailing when I move a window or move the bus view on the console view.

Anyone seeing anything similar?  I tried doing a search but didn't see anything.

I've never seen anything like that in any version of SONAR, but there was someone that had (what I believe is) the exact same issue that you're describing, and only since upgrading to X3.  Hopefully they'll see your post and chime in.   I do wonder if there's something in common between your systems...

Here's  the earlier thread:

You might check with those users whether they are also using Logitech.

Interesting, definitely some similar behavior, but I'm not getting any CPU overload or sound issues.  It only seems to effect the faders and knobs in the GUI.  Also I notice the same problem when using the trackpad on my laptop so It may be with more than Logitech, but I'll check with those users in the other thread.

It appears that the video issue only happens when I open a certain project.  It doesn't happen for any other project so I suspect something may have been corrupted.  The mouse thing happens even if I create a new project.

Sir Les
Have you done any OS tweaking?

I have had lots of cpu spike related issues in x2a causing anomalies on recordings ...and tried to rule out all possible candidates before upgrading to x3b by using :

"BLACK VIPERS"

suggested setup of OS for music systems under Win 7 64bit.

Could be your System Guy might have overlooked a tweak to turn off X Y Z background apps and services...?

Also I had tracked down the wd EXTERNAL USB 3.0 MY BOOK DRIVES TO BE CAUSING HICKUPS WITH THE OS...SO I UNPLUGGED THEM.

No more issues so far...

Avid Protools tech state "KINGSTON MICE" to be problematic...

Hope you solve the issues....

Thanks, I will check this out, he's got a Windows 8 setup page.  I don't use a Kensington mouse, I usually use Logitech products, occasionally Microsoft keyboard/mice.  The only other device would be the built-in HP trackpad which HP uses Synaptics.  I have the same problem with the touchpad as I do the mouse, but as I said if I use the touch screen or the scroll wheel I don't have any problems, only clicking and dragging with the mouse or trackpad.

Sir Les
Sorry for the bad intel out of my head denverdrummer.....Kensington mouse/mice it is....
 I also like Logitech Products...G500 mouse..is awesome

Not sure about your touch and track stuff.(Laptop?)..But as with my understanding of PC setups, everything needs a IRQ in windows world...So, the more you add devices to the system that demand poling for cpu and memory and such, them more Microsoft windows will share those valuable IRQs and resource time...and in that you gain problematic functioning of them in union!
My solutions for this is to try to reduce redundant devices from loading up drivers or installing, and claiming a IRQ if they are all used up.....and they are!...So the less devices installed on a system, the more performance and stability you gain.

If you use a mouse, no need to have the track pad load up or be in use...So to turn that off would save a sharing of IRQs.

For me it is all about getting those IRQs down in number....and things work better.

Hope this leads you to more bliss.

I suspect gaming mouse users are more likely to have this kind of problem. Those, like the G500, allow increasing the interrupt rate, or "report rate" up to 10 times the rate of a regular mouse. Given a high report rate, the software will be busier servicing mouse movement, including changing control values in effects and redrawing controls. They are configurable, though, and maybe configuring the report rate down to 100/sec will make them act like a regular mouse.

Thanks bvideo, I think I pinpointed the problem.  I don't have a gaming mouse, but I have a Logitech M510 which is a laser mouse which has a higher dpi and more interrupts just like you say.  I went and switched it out for an old Microsoft mouse I had lying around and no problems with the fader.  I also thought initially that there was a problem with my trackpad, but it seems to work fine.

Now I know this is something introduced in X3, because I had the M510 for a couple of years and used it on X1 and X2 with no problems, but hopefully it will give the developers some clues on what to look for.
