  • Is there a way to remove the time offset on every note in a midi recording?

I tried quantizing already but that didnt work. I have a full guitar melody recorded for a 5 minute piece that I played from the piano, and just tried putting it through Strum Acoustic Session and none of the notes that are too offset will play.

I dont want to have to go through everysingle note to remove the time offset :x

Hi Vab -
I'm not sure why quantization wouldn't do what you need to do. Can you provide more info?

There are some settings that need to be correct for things to work right, such as the window and strength. If the window is too narrow, notes farther away from the beat won't be moved. If ALL of the notes are off by a like amount, you can select them all and use the nudge controls to move them closer to being on beat and then finish byquantizing them. Another thing to check out are the select filters on the select menu. Perhaps you only want to select a certain range of notes for example.

Hope that helps,

Dave

When I tried quantizing, the notes didnt move, maybe because the off notes were too far from the centre?

I originally recorded the audio with my piano's guitar sound, but just spent a while making a much more ideal sound in strum acoustic session, but it wont play the notes that have too much offset due to my sloppy recording.

Actually its ok, it was much easier to edit the notes so that they werent overlapping in PRV than it was trying to do it in step sequencer using the offsets.

Hey Vab, can you update your footer when you get a chance ("User control panel" at the top of this page and then the "Signature and comment" on the left). I know you have mentioned in other posts, but my memory is not that good.

Are you saying that MIDI notes are not playing in #3?? Even if "offset too much" they should still play, so I am trying to understand your post (it seems you have two issues going?). Can you clarify what you mean my "won't play" please?

As Dave pointed out, you can nudge all of the notes if offset by a common amount. Brundlefly also made some nice offset tips recently in a looping thread (will see if I can find after I post this).

They play but they get severely dimmed through acoustic session, just a few bars of offset or overlap in PRV stops the notes from playing properly, almost like theres no polyphony. Its just an issue with this one soft synth.

I have not used the Strum Acoustic Session enough to speak to it, but just opened it and played with it for a bit.

The offset didn't make sense, because that is how you get the effective sound of a real strum. I put in a few chords and offset notes all over and they played fine.

However, I did see what you are describing when notes overlapped (i.e. a note is still ringing and hit again). If you move the now time back onto the ringing notes and start playback, the second notes strum fine (since the first are not ringing). I have not been able to find a way to rectify this other than to make them not overlap.

Just a random thought, but when you Quantize, the dialog box has check boxes to choose whether to change the start times, end times, or both.  (I always do both, but only start times is defaulted.)  If you did not have Start Times checked, the notes would not move.

Also—and I'm sure you thought of this—you have to have the track and the range selected or Quantize won't dp anything.  I have selected a time range before and then later realized I didn't have the track selected.

Yes I had the track selected to quantize.

Also my midi tracks keep getting locked and the notes cant be edited when I copy paste them, which is frustrating me.

After recording, you can use the event inspector...
During recording, refer to this post.
