Hope someone can help.  I have a midi track for a bass guitar part.  I inserted an audio channel, chose Cakewalk TTS-1 from the Fx dropdown, and set the output of the midi track to this audio channel.  TTS-1 shows the bass part as a synth bass, but I want a different bass sound.  I click on the instrument name in TTS-1, and select a different bass (like Finger Bass).  It changes names in the TTS-1 channel.  But, as soon as I hit Play to hear it, it immediately changes back to the synth bass.  I have done this many many times successfully in the past.

There are no patch changes showing up when I view the Event List.  I tried to insert an event (patch change) at the beginning of the Event List to force the Finger Bass, but can't figure out what channel/bank/patch to use for the TTS-1 instrument.

What am I missing?

Thx

The TTS-1 is a soft synth, so needs to be routed as such. To use it fully, it should be loaded as a soft synth.

Check out this thread. When you scroll down that thread, I inserted a video of how to insert the TTS-1 and will show you what I am saying (my second post in that thread).

If you chose TTs-1 as the instrument output on the midi, when you click on the bank select you should see a dropdown list of all the banks in the Tts-1. Bank 1 is the default sound set. Every other bank will have alternate sounds in those slots. When you click on the instrument dropdown list you should see the alternate instruments. Also check ALL the other tracks for that patch change because it could be hiding elsewhere.

Check the event list - there could be a patch change in there.

Check your event's list for an event "121". This sets all controllers to their defaults.

If that doesn't work, try inserting a new version of the TTS-1 to see if it repeats the same behavior.

And make sure the Bank/Patch fields in the headers of all tracks pointing to TTS-1 are "None" or set appropriately for whatever the forced MIDI output channel is. SONAR sends whatever is in those fields on start, and if two tracks are sending to the same channel, the lowest one will prevail as tracks are processed from top to bottom. If the MIDI file originated somewhere else, it likely included an initial GM Patch Change message that SONAR will have copied into the track header.

Thanks for all the tips.  I changed the Bank/Patch fields in the headers of all tracks pointing to TTS-1 to "None" as suggested by Brundlefly, and that worked.  I guess I don't know what those fields do.  I'll have to keep reading up and working with Cakewalk.  I'm a novice.

Thanks again
