I'm a long time Sonar Studio X2 user, its really served me well and thought I'd like to upgrade it to the latest Artist or Producer version. Logged onto the cakewalk site and can't believe my eyes that the whole line of products is discontinuing !!!!.
Firstly I thought Roland owned Cakewalk not Gibson, who can't even shift their guitars these days. Oh man this is sad news.

Anybody got any ideas how I can upgrade my Sonar X2 to the latest version ? I

Please take the time to read the many many threads on this forum with a lot have been moved to the software forum where you find  the crossgrade offers.

The only version you can actually get right now is Home Studio and this is being offered for Free.
The Cakewalk store is closed.

There are some vendors who have boxed versions of Platinum, but you'll pay full list price. I saw them at Musicians Friend when I was there last week.

But can they be authorized?

Roland still owned Cakewalk when X2 was released, but sold it to Gibson shortly after that.

If we could authorize the free version of Home Studio, you must be able to authorize any version of Sonar. But the price was reported to have even gone up, nobody should pay full price for what is at this point an dead end product.

There is no upgrade path for X2 so it would require buying the regular full product.
