  • (Not So) Quick Question: Effects Linked on Clone? (Seems Like No Answer)

So I clone a track, turn off everything but properties and the effects are still linked. That would be cool if I wanted that. Not sure why this is happening. Someone let me in.

What kind of track are you cloning?

Check out these two threads, I think they'll help.  Cloning tracks is a bit...weird (I wish Sonar would just implement a 'copy track' function!)

(The second link, a thread started by me, is specifically about effects being linked in cloned tracks).

I'm cloning a VSTi track. Dimension Pro to be more specific.

I read though most of that. I'll try to read through it again. If anyone has a short answer let me know.

The short answer is...
Do not clone instrument tracks.

From what I've been reading is do not clone SIMPLE instrument tracks. Seems like they are useless without a proper clone feature. Does it work correctly on non-simple instrument tracks? I guess I could try it. XD

Seems weird that they would make simple instrument tracks useless. Seemed like a great feature until they made them stupid. BRING BACK PROJECT 5. arg.

I tried it on non-simple instrument tracks. Still an issue.

Seems like the only way to clone a track is to save it as a preset and reload it in a new instance. It never used to work like that. This really kills my workflow. I wish I was overflowing with cash in order to switch DAWS. I mean what are they thinking? Am I missing something here?

Edited - never mind.

What happens if you select the track, by clicking on the track number, to bring it into focus, then right-click on the track and click copy (which should copy all events in all of the clips on that track, because the whole track is in focus), and then paste those copied clips into a new empty track?

I do this with audio tracks to create a complete duplicate of the clips, but without any issues that might arise from doing it as a clone.

After I paste everything in to the new empty track, I just have to set up inputs/outputs and effects, and I am all set.

Would the above work for you?  It's really fast to do.

After reading and doing tests, the problem has changed a little.

You can't copy or clone a VSTi all together. Say you clone an instrument track. It just creates a second track of the original. So it's pretty much like making a second midi track. It's really just if you want to add more midi to the original track.

The only work around I've found is to create a new instrument in the synth rack view. Save the original to a preset and load the preset into the new instrument.

It really has nothing to do with midi data.

You would think they would put a copy/clone function in the synth rack view. I guess this type of forward thinking is just not for cakewalk.
