Update: Well I figured out that you need to slip edit in the TOP portion of the clip to slip edit without slip editing everything else BUT when I went to Ctrl Z all the changes I made Sonar crashed HARD and I foolishly hadn't saved. I lost every single thing I recorded today.

Fudgedoodles. :-/

Okay so I know I just need to sit down and study the new way of doing stuff but I'm kind of in creative mode so just looking for maybe a quick tip. What's going on with this? I have the Smart Tool engaged and I go to trim a take/screw around with the overlap of clips to see what sounds good and what not but instead of just trimming the clip I have selected all the other clips get slip edited along with it which leads to silence.

Yes... this is a RTFM moment but I got a flow going here. Cheers.

Wath the X3 Comping video on Cake TV.  It's only six minutes long.  What you're seeing is the comping tool.

Hi, jb. Actually it wasn't (and I did rewatch the video again... this behavior isn't mentioned). I'm in Sound on Sound mode but that doesn't actually matter. The problem was I was slip editing from the bottom half of the clip which for some reason hooks into the other clips. I got it figured out now but I'm not sure what the purpose of that bottom half thing is. I guess it's to edit all the lanes at once. The cursor does turn into three bars which would likely indicate that.

As far as the crash... well fortunately I still had all the parts I'd written under my fingers so I managed to lay them down again rather quickly. I'll just have to be careful with performing lots of "undo" actions quickly. I actually had that happen before in X2.

Cheers.

I'm in Groove 3 mode when it comes to takelanes right now again, found some weird stuff (IMHO) and posted it in the other thread:

Hi steve, alex... Thanks. I'll be doing an in depth dissection of the new take lanes probably this week. I was just writing yesterday and didn't want to break the creative flow for more studying. Alas because I haven't been on my intensive practice schedule for some time I lost my callouses and wore off a nice chunk of one of my fingers which is now quite tender... so I guess I'll have a little time while that heals. lol

Ouch.   Just avoid getting a virtual paper cut and you should be OK.

Make sure other clips are not selected.  This bites me sometimes.  I'll slip edit or modify a fade on a clip and not realize other clips where selected.
