Hello, I was wondering, sometimes I have long sustained notes in my songs.  Being a former Cubase user, I recall that if you started playback/record in the middle of a note, it would automatically trigger and play.  

Is there a setting in Sonar that can be switched to allow this?  It is very frustrating to have to playback the entire song from the beginning just to record at a later part in order to keep the long notes playing

No, without freezing or bouncing the track, MIDI notes only play from their beginning.

Yeah it's a real pain sometimes, especially if you have a long sustained soundscape or FX sound that's integral to the track. Although if it's a note you are fairly happy with, then temporarily freezing the track isn't that much of a hassle. Maybe put in a feature request to Cakewalk for having the option to start all notes from the point of playback.

We've discussed this before.
 
The problem of course is when you have a slowly evolving patch - Sonar will only be able to pick the note up at the attack phase, so everything after that will be out of sync.
 
Freezing the synth is a very quick workaround - but only if you're not currently working on that particular patch!!

For me, as I work with alot of  sustained soundscape and atmospheric sounds, this wount do.
And will mess up my workflow.

But now I know :)

Perhaps it sounds strange to some, but this tiny feature will make me hold on Sonar for the time. And continue to work with Cubase 7. I will mess up my workflow to much.
And time is money in this buissnes as im sure you guys know ;)

I would suggest trying the freeze track option.  I think you will find it doesn't interfere with your workflow in any majorly disruptive way, and it should free up some resources, to the best of my knowledge.  (I have giant bunches of memory, so I don't tend to freeze things).
 
Give that a shot - if you are not currently a Sonar user, try the available download and give that a shot.  You have 30 days to play around with it.  I think the current download that is out there is still X2, but that should still be fine.
