Been using Cakewalk since the beginning so no need to rehash how I feel these past few months.

I have Cakewalk Professional.  I have all the install files of course.  What else do I need to ensure I can manually install if I move to a new workstation.  Serial numbers?  Will there be any issues with not being able to use any software once the support server goes away?  My studio is currently down, as in I'm in the process of building a new one.  My clients projects are of course backed up, but if I need to access something 5 years from now will I be able to.  I know to some that seems like a lot, but just last year I needed to bring up some tracks that were over 10 years old for a project.

Thanks in advance.

Copy and paste your serial numbers in your account.

Ableton, Bitwig should I feel the need to go retrosynth and Studio One. Occasional use of Pro Tools when my arm is being bent. Sticking to the "lifetime" Sonar for old projects.

Still trying to adopt optimal workflows I never seem to settle.
IMHO the easiest workflow for Sonar users to adopt to is Studio ONE, but that's only my opinion.

Cheers.

i'd agree regarding ease of switch, i also swapped to s1, back during the x1 mess... i also have live9 but it doesn't get so much use, depends on how loopy i'm feeling

I think Studio ONE is a brilliant DAW. There are a lot of good Sonar people coming across.

I just hope it doesn't get infected by fanaticism or shameless self promoters/evangelists, that would be another downhill spiral imho. At the moment it has the right balance.

if the Servers go down a serial number wont do much but put you in demo mode.
So you have a right to be concerned.
I would personally install it as soon as possible, do an off line activation.
That's really the only way to have a back up plan right now.

Cakewalk has said they would make sure we have a way to authorize the software but at this point I don't trust anything.

While the servers are running you can still use CCC which is a lot easier unless your willing to spend extra time making notes. I tried the offline method just to experiment and see what you could do. It was a lot more work and I ended up missing a few plug ins. At least CCC keeps track of what you install so therefore the less painful method.. and just think I was one of those who was outraged at CCC existence when it was introduced...

THe escape plan is to back up everything you own 3x to different locations and all your serials ..
Then a noice fresh install to a new SSD C drive. Myself I even ditched W10 reverted to W8.1 I have a second DAW set up with W10 still and it's already causing me grief so It might end up with W7. I would have to pay for another copy of W 8.1 but I still can put W7 on it for free.
You could also use W10 and unplug it but that's not for everyone.
Even Windows 10 Pro will force an update on you eventually.
W 8.1 and W7 only update security stuff so nothing will get trashed.

My other back up plan is I still have X3e and that will always be available to us.
If you dig around here you will find threads about getting the unlocks for some of the 3rd party built in plug ins. I just got my unlock code for Overloud.

^^ This.

Go into CC settings and use verbose mode, that will basically run each installer manually and give you all the options.

Once everything is installed go to the downloads folder and back up the installer .exe's.

There's already a bit of familiar whining over there...
