  • I know... I'm the worst, but can't get Sonar Platinum to work with Xtouch

I have tried to find a similar post ... all I could find was this...post (I can't figure out how to post links to other forum posts...)

http://forum.cakewalk.com/Behringer-XTouch-here-I-go-again-SOLVED-m3381375.aspx

...and the SOLVED part appear to be that it just started working...

Just bought an Xtouch and followed the set up  (including changing to MC and USB and pressing Select again)  this video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-8VO1vpc7U

When I couldn't get it to work, I bought another one, thinking I might have a bad unit... same story:

I can't get past Connecting...no matter how many reboots, cable swaps.  Updated firmware... followed the this video ... and can't get past the "connecting..." status.  When I open the CWP, nothing happens with the Xtouch (i.e. faders don't move or control anything)

I then tried Azslow3's idea ...

1. remove MackieControl from control surfaces list
2. add new MIDI track, set its input to X-Touch
3. press some buttons on X-Touch, do you see some MIDI coming?
4. arm the track and start recording. Press some buttons. Then move the first fader.

I am getting midi signals recording to the track.  Tried reinserting controller ... and nothing still.

Any further help would be appreciated.

My set up:

Sonar Platinum
Windows 10 64bit
Liquid Saffire 56

Hi. Have a look at this thread.

Hope it helps.
All the best.

Thanks for the reply.  I did see that and did that as well (that's pretty much what the video shows)... I'm baffled.

That only tell that inbound connection is working. Unfortunately, there are still 2 possible problems:
1) XTouch is not sending what it should (not in MC mode or that mode is broken)
2) outbound connection is not working.

To check (1): http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,341.0.html
So replace original DLL with my mod and set "Disable handshake" in the options (you will no longer see "Connecting...")
If X-Touch start to work normally - MC mode is broken.
If X-Touch work, but there is no feedback - outbound connection is broken
If X-Touch still does not work , it is not in MC mode..

Thanks azslow... I started down adding your mod but I can't find the mackiecontrol.dll to replace it.  In the Shared Surfaces folder of Cakewalk, I only have chm files (which appear to be help files, one of which is MackieControl).  I downloaded the Cakewalk Control Surface plug-ins bundle and installed, but nothing.

I am wondering if that is the issue.

THANK YOU!  The mod did the trick.  I found the MC dll (in a different folder).  Added the mod and the ini file and BOOM.  I can't thank you enough!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QtUbIQdsY8     This is a video I just did that outlines some other places to check in windows.  Its in response to a pro tools error, but it deals more with windows than a specific daw.  Are you still having trouble?

I don't know but it works great for me and never had an issue.  Make sure you have Xtouch set for MC.  Mackie Control Xtouch X touch in the settings for control surfaces.  Sometimes I do have remove it and re-add but it always works and / or comes back.  I never needed any mods

Thanks Stxx... yeah, not sure what the problem was but the mod did the trick.

While I have you - one thing I have noticed is that I can only get the 1st effect in the FX bin to show up (to control) in the xtouch.  For example... if I have a reverb (first/top) and an eq  (second) in the fx bin, when I hit plugin on the xtouch it shows the first one (reverb) but I have no idea how to get to the next one (eq).  I also don't know how to get to additional FX parameters past the 8 that show up.  Any experience here?  I might be missing something simple, but there's no real manual ;)

Thanks,
Chris

There is manual... press "F1" when MackieControl dialog is open.
Note that you need Sonar overlay for X-Touch for correct labeling (there was several mentioned on this forum, there is one on Behringer forum).

The issue could be not in the mod but in IO assignments. Sonar has a bug (may be more the one) and in "Control Surfaces" dialog sometimes shows incorrect port  names. Removing TTSSEQ.INI normally helps.
