I'm in need of a new one.  So many options so thought I'd ask what's really working for you all.

What's the best size and resolution to suit Sonar?

What about the hdmi tv's,  any benifits or problems with them?

Can anyone think of anything I haven't thought of? I'll bet so!

I don't know much about resolutions and such, but I do know that having had dual monitors for a few years now, if I were buying now my first consideration would be which ones can I afford two of ?.

Here's a thread I started a few days ago about this.  I love the 27" Hanns-G monitors I have.....got two of them running duel monitors with Sonar.

I've been considering going from my 24" monitor to a 29" Ultra Wide like this one.
Has anyone been using one of those and if so, do you like it so far?

Thanks

My choice is based on a monitor with solution that is higher than what Sonar recommended, but not necessary the highest available.

Due to my eye sight .. I'm most happy at 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 27" monitor - placed about 2-3 feet from me. The same resolution with my smaller monitor (21.5") is a bit straining for me. And I won't go for 27" monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution as text and graphics will be smaller. Not that it's an issue with web browser, but Sonar and other vst screen size won't scale up/down independently of the monitor resolution.

Dual (or more) monitors is a must, IMO. I hate tabbing through things and I like everyting in front of me. I wish everything these days wasn't widescreen - 4x3 monitors rule for the larger vertical space (especially for track view). For me, widescreen monitors are better for displaying a bunch of channel strips. Regarding size/resolution, I think it depends on your eyesight and what you're comfortable with.

I'm seriously considering upgrading my DAW to Win8 (or 8.1) and getting a pair of 22" or 23" 1080p touchscreen monitors. Definitely not needed, but a cool toy.

Right now, I'm using 3 monitors, a 17" 4x3 LCD, a 22" LCD (1680x1050), and a 19" 4x3 LCD (portrait mode) on my DAW. If I went to the touchscreen monitors, I'd probably mount the smaller ones above on an arm to display things like plugins or maybe the time/measure counter (so I can see it from across the room).

To the OP,

With HDMI you can have longer cable length.

You may want to decide if the monitor supports VESA mounting ?

Edit : Just realized you asked about HDMI TV..not the interface/cable.

I'm using a 24" Orion tv that I bought at Walmart on Black Friday last year for $78 running through an HDMI cable.  I guess it could be better, but it's working fine.  I also have my cable hooked up to it, so it serves double duty as a tv once in a while.  Sure beats the 19 inch monitor I used to use.

if its for your daw... just save the money, go big and get a 40 inch TV with vga/HDMI ports.
a lot of bigger studios are doing this now a day.
just check the specs on the tv, make sure it has a quick refresh rate.

im using a 42 inch monitor. its great
