When I try to open Dim Pro, it says an older edition was found, directs me to an update, update won't install. ??? How does one get this thing to work?

So, I must assume that Dimension Pro just plain doesn't work. I can't seem to get it to, anyway. I've tried all the patches, updates, etc, that it has said to do and nothing works.
I'm finally getting used to X2 and finding that, for the most part, it was barely worth the money and effort to "upgrade" from Sonar 8.
So much in X2 just doesn't work, or work quite right. Most annoying update yet, IMHO. (User since Sonar 1).

There is a glitch in X2 DimPro if you already had a version on it due to an earlier installation.  Check the SYNTH forum for a sticky (I think) that deals w/ the situation.

Most of us here can understand what your going through. So much in X2 is "SO DIFFERENT" from Sonar 8 that it will take some time to get use to it.

But I can tell you, it's worth it. I upgraded when X1 came out and also when X2 came out, and I can honestly say that I am just now really getting to where I can really work with it and see what the design changes are all about. This is almost two years after X1 came out!! Just hang in there!

Aw, I'm just so freaking frustrated by the whole Dim Pro ordeal I've been dealing with the last couple of days. Overall, I DO LIKE X2!
I love the Pro Channel.
I love some of the new plugins!
Actually, there's a lot about X2 that I really like. But..... the stuff that doesn't work right is REALLY ANNOYING!!! Ha ha!
Much of the stuff I originally was uncomfortable with, I've learned to work with. Automation lanes, however, are still giving me fits! They just don't seem accurate and responsive enough to me. I wish I could go back to the old way of just editing them overlayed on the waveform. This new way is taking me 3 times longer to accomplish anything!
I haven't had the need to use MIDI or any soft synths in years. Now, suddenly, I find myself in need of doing so for a new project and BAM! Nothing seems to work right! Frustrating!
Over the years, Cakewalk has been responsive and kept improving new releases. Now it seems like there is little response from them at all. That's disheartening, too.

Did you click on the link provided by scook, and then follow it through to the page titled "Clean Install Dimension Pro for Dimension Pro 1.5 full installer"

That WILL get Dim Pro up & running.

I have a question regarding the Dimension full/fresh install. I've never had it on my current Windows 8 system so this will be a completely fresh/clean install.

What is the CURRENT method for making sure the CONTENT ends up on my samples drive and not on my C or systems drive? I'm speaking of the libraries. I have a dedicated drive for  libraries like Kontakt or Ivory etc.

I remember having to use registry tweaks and such under Windows 7 x64 and the search is bringing up a lot of information but I suspect much of it is outdated.

TIA!

IIRC, the installer provides an option to enter the path for the samples. The registry edits for all the sfz engine synths are in this thread. The info in the thread is current.

Rodreb,

You need to install and register the program as an administrator if you're using Windows.
