  • Setting loop points during playback sure does crash Sonar a lot (p.3)

It might be something silly like Screenset 1 in your default template is corrupt - and it's loading up every time you start a new project.

You may well be right, I'll try in the morning. Thanks Jonsey, I'll report back my findings.

Hi Dan,

This isn't specific to any one project with me, it's just a general thing that happens in all projects. And it doesn't happen all the time, like I said maybe one in five times that I set a loop during playback.

sharke id send a project in.
think about it, you got bakers wanting to analyze the situation.
id be all over this bro.

either way, best of luck.

Thank you Mr Jonsey, that seems to have solved the problem.  It was broken as discussed first thing this morning, I adjusted SS5 to look like I wanted 1 to be then duplicated 5 to 1.  So far since doing that, I haven't had a single SS freeze on me.  However, after 3 clean installs as directed by CW, it begs the question why is it that my SS keep getting corrupted... this is 3 completely new projects that this has happened on.  You may be right, that my screen set 1 may be corrupt in my Normal template, but, after 3 clean installs?
Anyhow I am very pleased that I now have a work around for it, also begs the question, why didn't I think of it in the first place :-)? you wouldn't believe the hurdles Ive jumped through to try and solve this!

Sharke,

One in five times is pretty repeatable. I'm looking for clues to what workflow scenarios might be causing this. If you have a project you know this has happened in and would like to help us resolve this issue, you can send me the project with some hints on what you did or how you typically use loop points. Most likely we wouldn't require the audio, just the raw .cwp file would do.

Hi Dan,

How do I send you a project?  I tried in a PM but the file type for attachments is not supported.

In any event, I have found the issue to be very repeatable for all of my projects.  I it most obvious if I select a time range and then just repeatedly clicking the "set loop time" button.  Each time there is an audible glitch in the audio.  If I click it enough times I eventually get a dropout.  The problem is worse (e.g. more likely any given click will result in a dropout) with higher track counts and more CPU usage, but is present even for very modest projects.  For larger projects of say 20 tracks with a plugin or two on each track (but still showing very little CPU load) I get a dropout about 1 in 5-10 times.

I tried opening in safe mode in case there was a plugin issue, but this did not fix the problem.    Increasing latency and using read caching helps, but the problem is still present and occasionally (several times in a session) results in a dropout.  I have similar problems when making other changes to loop settings, such as dragging a loop range while playing.

Yesterday I used Windows update and installed the most recent drivers from RME so this should not be an issue of an out of date driver.

I love the musicality of being able to adjust and move things on the fly. Unfortunately this isn't possible for me in sonar without it stopping the audio engine or even crashing for many things I attempt, usually something simple like copy and pasting a clip which is something i used to be able to do in cubase sx 1.6 ten years ago. I am not sure I understand the actual definition of gapless audio engine unless it means no drop outs, which doesn't really bother me that much. Perhaps someone could explain. Maybe it's just my system.

I got the same from setting Record loop (punch-in) to the same as Audio loop, then playing.

Hi Sharke, only for curiosity....i have noticed that ,for some time, you (Beepster too) have every kind of problem with Sonar X2.
Maybe my system is blessed.
Best.
