I recently moved from Digital Performer to Sonar 8.5.

After moving several song projects from Digital Performer on the MAC to Sonar 8.5 on the PC, the audio is no longer in sync with the MIDI arrangemenets. The MIDI tracks were easily moved and the audio tracks had to be moved separately. When they were reunited on Sonar 8.5 tracks, the audio tracks are no longer in sync with the MIDI tracks even though all audio clips were placed in exactly the same bar location as before.
Can you suggest the proper Sonar tool or process to re-sync the audio with the MIDI?
Thanks in advance!
Hello phillpt. Could this problem stem from tempo differences between DP and Sonar project? If so, try setting the tempo of Sonar project to match that of DP project. Just a thought anyways. Also, you may want to post this in Sonar 8 forum since you're actually looking for help. Probably more people will see the post there.

I'll be switching *from* Sonar if cakewalk continues to strip features out of their products.

I started out on a Roland VS-880EX, then on to Pro Tools. This was in 1998-2002 or so. I purchased Cakewalk 4.0 since I was pretty committed to the PC. I have been a dedicated supporter of Cakewalk on through Sonar to now X1. Although I continue to use ProTools M-Powered in the studio that I do contract work in. I prefer to use Sonar 8.5.3 in my own studio. Like I tell my contract studio's owner, until he steps up to ProTools HD, I can run circles around his system with my Sonar and VS-700C! I have been starting to really get into X1, but really waiting until I get a windows 7 based computer to utilize it.

I'm just now going nuts over my X1 producer just like I went nuts over my casio VZ-1 synth over 20 years ago. Both my X1 and my vz synth makes an excellent companion together. Maybe the downside of the x1 is the learning curve and it was very steep. I finally figured out the stability problems of the recordings and mixdowns I was having before. Since it's all fixed now I'm very happy with it for the most part, what more could I ask for? Keep up the good work Cakewalk.

Switched to Sonar from FLstudio after I realized that I had gotten so used to flstudio that every song I wrote was coming out similar because I wrote in the exact same manner every time.  Not to mention I didn't like the pattern based workflow and the playlist editor got really messy and didn't offer very many customization options.  When I purchased a new hardware synthesizer and automation of it in flstudio was pretty basic and a pain in the butt I switched. I tried almost every other DAW out there and just didn't like their workflows or interfaces.  I never gave sonar a chance because i thought the older interface was horrible and cluttered and then I found sonar x1 and loved it.

Now I have the ultimate customization set up in sonar.  I can just click record and start jamming and everything is sequenced in for me.  Very nice.

Lost in Time
After a 15 year break from music, I was advised, for medical reasons, to find a hobby for relaxation purposes, I was a pro photographer working every hour I could to keep the wolf from the door.

I had played guitar in several local bands, so I went and spent my hard earned cash on an instrument that I could get 'serious' with, a PRS Custom 22. After a while, I started to write songs, and was persuaded to record them.

My first venture was a Korg D4, a nice little machine which I grew out of in no time at all, but I had got some songs up on myspace, and was getting some interest.

Next up was a Boss BR1600CD, an excellent piece of kit ,  I got some record label interest with the songs I recorded on this. However, the H/D died, after several attempts to get it sorted, I gave up with it. Now here is some good advice if you are going to use one one these. I had backed up all my songs onto CD, but when the machine broke, I found that NO program would open the files, I was left with the WAV versions only, you need another, similar machine to access your music, and at £1200.00 a time, it is expensive.

Taking advice from my local music store, I purchased a Tascam US-144 sound card which came complete with Cubase LE-4, I was told that this would be the thing for me.............WRONG, it never worked right with Vista, many many emails to and fro to Steinberg failed to fix it, several people on here state the arrogance of Steinberg, I can only agree, the Midi never connected with my keyboards, and it would 'drop out' constantly. I am using Vista with 1 gig processor and 8 gig ram, so it should have never drop out on a simple guitar track, no matter what the latency was set at.

I went to another dealer who recommended Calkwalk Home Studio 7, which I eventually bought, this worked a treat, the midi connected without a hitch it worked without any of the Cubase problems. I had spoken to a guy at Roland UK prior to this, he was very very helpful, even tried to get the Cubase to work, which is more than Steinberg did.. it was this guys help and attitude that sold it to me, not once did he criticise Cubase or other DAW companies, but he spelled out exactly what HS7 would do, and he was right.

Now, one thing for sure, I am not a computer wizz kid, I am a photographer who is making my way in music using old gear, it fits my music style. I have problems...loads of them, but unlike Cubase, I can come onto the forum at Cakewalk and get almost instant help, Beagle and the rest of the guys, you are a godsend, not just to idiots like me, but 100's of beginners (and no so beginners). Very patient when asked the most idiotic of questions... of course, they are not idiotic to the person who is asking the question, them like me, are asking because we have come to a very large brick wall, and we can't find a way round it on our own, at the forum, help is ALWAYS available from people who care, and this is one of the main reasons for sticking with Cakewalk.. so many real people believe in it, and that will do for me.

However, I was offered Producer 8 at a very very good price, must have been stuck on the shelves for a while, it was very dusty, and won't sell with all the newer versions now available.

Producer 8, no matter how old it is, is taking my music to another level, just by loading my older HS7 songs in to it, and making very minor adjustments, the difference is unbelievable. I am still trying to find my way round it all, but it is a pleasure to learn... why, because, so far, everything I have tried... works.

I will upgrade to the latest version when I have the finance available, like the rest of the world, I am finding things very difficult at the moment, but one thing for sure, I WILL be sticking with Sonar Cakewalk, the company's attitude, the helpfulness of the people on this forum, and last but not least.....it works for me.

Take a listen to my music (some recorded on the Boss, some recorded on HS7, one recorded on Producer 8... but nothing recorded on Cubase) www.myspace.com/sunfightermusic add me as a friend if you want.

Thanks again guys, it is a real pleasure to be part of the Cakewalk family

I am a PC user stuck forver on Logic Platinum 5.5.1 (with Reason) which I really liked and worked well with, but a new PC purchase and move to Windows 7 prompted me to review what I was working with.  I tried the Sonar demo and promptly bought X1 Producer.  I mainly track live audio which is working fine.  I'm finding it challenging to work with the MIDI side of things in X1 ... might be more lack of understanding/patience than anything else but EZDrummer isn't playing nicely with my setup which is slowing things down.

I love the interface.

After finding Sonar's issue with refusing to accept plug-ins as being present when opening projects i've not touched in a version or so (claiming they're missing when they're clearly available to other projects or new projects), seeing how much work i might be losing at the hands of a bad plug-in management system, i may be moving FROM Sonar. i'd been with Cakewalk since Cakewalk Apprentice. In general, i've always found Cakewalk Pro Audio and Sonar to be relatively sensibly laid out and easy to learn, but somewhat ugly and difficult to operate ergonomically (editing automation curves most notably). After spending two years getting familiar with the Mac OS world, i'm finding Sonar is the only thing keeping me on Windows, but with all the lost work Sonar is now causing with my plug-ins (no, it's not ok to tell me to just delete the instance of the plug-in and load a new one, because i lose all my plug-in settings), i'm thinking it's time to switch. i've several times made the mistake of showing loyalty to a product that shows no loyalty to me and i'm done with that line of behavior.

Have you contacted support? Something is obviously very messed up on your system.

Brandon:
i have contacted support. Two separate requests. The first & only response so far, telling me to delete the current unusable instances and recreate new ones, is not helpful, as noted in my post above. There's nothing wrong with my system. There's something wrong with the way Sonar behaves. Please do some checking on the forum at the following links to see i'm not the only one dealing with this (it might not be super common, but it isn't just me):

UPDATE: Ok, it's not entirely Sonar's fault, so i might be OK after some hard work recovering from various issues. Believe me, i like Sonar in many ways, but it seriously needs some updates to lots of features (things i see were neglected in X1) and it seriously needs to help the user more and fail more gracefully.
