Hi guys, new to this midi tech side so pardon the question, I'm hoping to shed some light on this, but I'm trying to sync a BOSS DR-880 that has a drum track on it to a preset arp sequencer on the Z3TA+1 plugin so when I play the drums pattern it's in sync wth the seq arp preset.. Is their a way to route the MIDI so the Z3TA+1 syncs with the DR-880 or should I just record both then try to aligh the beats?

To my knowledge the arp in Z3ta does not control instruments outside of z3ta.  Although the patterns are based on midi, they are stored in a .cmp format that I don 't think is easy to convert to midi.  There have been many threads abiout it:

One clumsy but feasible way to drive your DR-880 with an arp pattern from z3ta is to find or create a very basic monophonic patch.  Bounce that too audio and attempt to use something like V-vocal to create a midi file from the rendered pattern.  Assign that created midi clip to your Dr-880 and see if it is the sound you are looking for.

I apologize  I think I misunderstood your question.

You should be able to sync your DR-880 to the Cakewalk transport clock or vice verse.  The z3ta arp is going to sync to the Cakewalk clock.  Check your DR-880 documentation to see what settings need to be adjusted to sync to extrenal clocks
 

By default, DR880 is already in auto sync mode, unless you have changed it. You just need to make sure Sonar is sending midi sync correctly.
 
At the Preference, select Project - MIDI
- check on Transmit MIDI Start/Cont/Clock.
- Optionally check on Transmit MIDI Song Position Pointer (if you are recording DR880 Song - check this, for Pattern recording - leave it off).
- Check on the MIDI Sync port that the DR880 is connected to.
 
When you start Sonar, DR880 should start automatically. It's better to have 1 empty bar at the DR880 (song or pattern) before recording DR880 (midi or audio). Without the empty bar, sometimes there may be a miss at the very first beat.

I would upload the MIDI file from the DR 880 or record the MIDI as it plays. Use that MIDI track that is now triggering the DR 880 to put everything in proper time. You may need to adjust it if the tempo is off. 
If the tempo is the same for Sonar and the DR 880 you shouldn't have any trouble.
