Sorry, it looks like I missed your earlier post, which you may have put out there while I was typing up my grand notion on approaching things from a diagnostic stand point.

for some reason, the playback timing master got set to none. I was playing projects earlier without issue. Thes older projects got interpreted and caused X2 to reset the playback master to none. The TS guy was quick to note the timing playback option. Good call. All of the projects now open. If the bakers are eager to pursue what happened between projects, I can try a recreate. I have had no success so far with a recreate of the playback timing master resetting to none.

I have no idea how the global parm got reset to none since I did not go into the global parms at all. Most all of my older projects open without issue.

These projects now open and play after a visit with TS.

This is actually why we have the "Silent Bus Detected' warning message.

It's on by default but you may have turned it off or it's possibly the old projects were created before we added this flag. Re-saving them would add it.

For turning the message on/off

Go to Preferences > File > Initialization File
Then create an Option called: WarnSilentBuses
Set the Value to: 0 (off) or 1 (on)

These are big projects with about 3G in them each. They open fine in 8.5 but will not play after opening in X2. I get the 'busy' message for the wavefiles trying to be drawn and they never do, or at least the 20 mins I waited for them to draw they didn't. I think they are 8.5 projects. Some of the file are 2k7 dated.

They open and play fine in 8.5.

X2 just isn't ready for my prime time. I am very sorry I bought it...

Time to make TS feel my pain...

I know this may be basic but have you verified track/bus outputs in these projects?

Wave forms won't be drawn in those cases, you'll see the '(Busy)' message, and you most certainly wouldn't hear anything.

you just have to wonder what logic would prohibit a waveform from being drawn if a track or master bus is wrong??  What does a waveform have to do with a bus or the playback timing master in my case?

The waveforms are created off a calculated wave output. If no hardware is listed it can't create a new image.

that is on now, thanks Seth. Maybe it should default to on regardless if the user does not specify it or a project did not set it or use it in a prior release.

It defaults to On.  It's possible you migrated settings from an older version and it was turned off.

Certain options in later SONAR releases are limited on what the original project files have in them. For instance projects prior to X2 wouldn't have Auto-Zoom position settings and it would be written on first open/save.

My older version was X1. Was that WSB setting available in X1?

Something went south in X2 within 20 mins of opening a few good playing projects earlier and then the drama unfolded. X2 automagically changed settingss based on older project settings most likely. It looks like there may have been some settings that werem't processed properly from the older project, no doubt.

The WSB message has been around since 8.5 if I remember correctly.

I have been a continual user/upgrader since the Dos days, so I wouldn't expect a continuance of the product to drop something as it was suggested. I have not missed a single release that I know of.

Thanks for your time and the info Seth.

Hi, by any chance do you know how to stop the "Busy" message in the audio clip from appearing (when the waveform and the sound are both absolutely fine)?

The reason why I just want to remove the message is explained here:
http://forum.cakewalk.com...-go-away-m2831601.aspx
(I upgraded my OS from 32-bit to 64-bit afterwards but the message still recurs)

I contacted tech support and asked Dan twice if there's a setting to stop the message from being displayed, but he didn't seem to know (or maybe there's no way to stop it).

Also, it looks like there are more variables for initialization files available than those listed in the reference guide (for example, "WarnSilentBuses" and "VSTPlugInNameFormat" aren't listed). Where can we see the complete list of variables?

Thanks

I've never seen that before.

Did Dan have to re-personalize SONAR by holding Shift+Ctrl when launching the application? This should rewrite your config files. If it's an error in one of those it should get cleared out.
