  • So confused! JamOrigin's MidiGuitar, how to setup in Sonar. (p.2)

Because you had so much trouble trying to configure MIDI Guitar as a VST, you need to forget about using it in the FX bin (unless you want to revisit and address the issues from your first thread). You are now trying to use the second method, using MIDI Guitar standalone, just like you would use your hardware MIDI devices. Your guitar is going into the MIDI Guitar standalone, the MIDI output will travel through the LoopBe1 virtual MIDI cable to SONAR.

Thanks Skook
Just put in LoopBe1 as a MIDI device in SONAR both in and out.

Ok be right back,
Working on the new idea of standalone.

The SONAR out does not matter. Now that you have LoopBe1 setup in SONAR, you should be able to open MIDI Guitar, set the MIDI out  LoopBe1 and you will have the MIDI Guitar connected to SONAR. Add a synth track in SONAR and that should do it.

Ok ran MG as stand alone.
At first it didn't see my BR800 as Audio Setting device until I rebooted it.
In MG, Set instrument to Dimension LE
Amp effect to none.
Midi output to the Loopbe internal midi (no sound yet)
Run Sonar (message about no device)
Edit Preferences (no choices in Audio devices) and set Midi device ins and outs to Loopbe and br800
Start new job, Crash! with 2 notes.
The usual Sonarpdr.exe, needs to close and one from loopbe in the lower right task bar in windows saying" Midi feedback (shortcut) do not connect midi out and midi in of loopbe within a single application."
I take it this is about my edit pref settings. Which ones (of the 4) are wrong?

It sounds like you are following this method correctly except you are defining an instrument in MIDI Guitar. That is not needed. The synth will be defined in SONAR. That might be the problem. You could uninstall LoopBe1 and try LoopMIDI but I doubt that will make a difference. If you recall the problems that you initially experienced pointed to the BR-800 possibly not being up to the task. If that is the case, there is not much one can do.

I did it! I had to use the external method and loopMIDI (which I had anyway). Once you have the standalone running, loopMIDI up and running and the Sonar with a synth ready and waiting you may have to mess about with the transport to get the audio engine working. I loaded a drum loop just to start things off and it worked perfectly. It then timed out (trial version)!

Grum.

I reckon I could get it working inside Sonar if, when configured as a synth like I said earlier, you could go to the synth properties page and get "enable midi output" to work. It's annoying that it only works as you boot up the synth rather than being an option you can actually get to work afterwards.

Grum.

Here are the steps to add MIDI Guitar as a VST. In addition to setting the plug-in as a synth and enabling MIDI out in the synth rack, there is a registry change. At least, it describes the method that I use to get it going.

Thanks so much again Skook. You're a champ.
It does look as if sonar doesn't like the combo as it crashes with any combination of ins and outs.
I did get BR800 latency working with MG outside once I figured out how to lower the buffers.
I'm giving up on this and looking at a new midi PuP for the guitar.
I found a $75 used GK3 for my GR20 just so it's not a complete throwaway and I'll look into the new wifi one that works with a USB dongle I saw somewhere.
I really need to be able to get those horns, keys and pads etc.
Guess I should also learn to input by hand and/or to play the keys.
Again thanks for your patience.
