All of my work focuses on midi composition. Have there been enough midi editing improvements to justify upgrading? I don't have much of a need for audio editing and recording. Thanks, Aric

What sort of improvements are you expecting?

Still no improvement with the Staff View! It has actually gotten worse in some cases. I can't comment on the Piano Roll View because I have never used it. Most of my midi is written in the Staff View or played in from an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. If you are looking for notation type editing, Cake is not the place to look. I am sorry to say that. Some of us keep hoping they will get around to upgrading that feature but it looks like its pretty much dead. I love Sonar very much but that is one place where it is really hurting for some attention.

 I agree, Cakewalk is not known for their support of notation. I do all of my writing and printing in Finale anyway then transport it over to Sonar for mixing. Most of my work involves using piano roll view to manipulate midi data and track view to edit envelopes. I guess I'm looking for anything that might help improve my workflow in those areas.

Dragging the timeline up/down (with left click) to zoom horizontally and (with right click) to zoom vertically - great improvement (although the vertical zoom doesn't work in drum grid pane).
Horizontal aim assist, and notes being played (by your MIDI keyboard) are highlighted real-time on the virtual keyboard - great visual help.
Clicking the track header (added from X2) selects all note events in the clip - useful for both regular PRV and Inline PRV.
Rounded note shape - forgot I hated it so much first (but still not sure if I like it).
Track Pane now has the same design as the tracks in the Track View (not sure if I like it).

My workflow improved.
But you need to figure out whether you'll like the disputed new feature "Track Lane" before upgrading.

And definitely not PreSonus Studio One, either. It doesn't have the feature.
