Video: SONAR X2 - Transitioning From SONAR X1 (and earlier)

Hello Everyone,

If you're needing or wanting to know what major interface, workflow, and daily operation changes have been made in SONAR X2 versus X1 and older versions of SONAR, then check out the video in the link below.

YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw5z9BKWD-I

This video is a no-nonsense, down and dirty, off the cuff, low production value piece that explains and demonstrates the features, behaviors, and operations that have been changed and updated in SONAR X2. This includes things like selecting, clips, automation gestures, lanes, the Piano Roll View, and a lot more. Its not a feature video, a commercial, or anything fancy, its just designed to help you get up to speed with X2 as fast as possible.

Apologies that I couldn't get this out yesterday or even earlier today, but this thing took FOREVER to render. :)

If you have any follow-up questions and/ or comments, feel free to leave them here. I'd like to keep this discussion focused on the changes in X2 from X1 and earlier, so please leave bug reports and other comments in the appropriate thread(s) in the main section of this forum.

I'll try my best to reply as quickly as possible but probably will not be able to do so until early next week.

Enjoy!

Thanks,

SP

How anyone can still say that X1 to X2 wasn't a major change after watching that needs their bumps feeling, imo. And it's not even touched upon ProChannel...

Lots of great stuff!  Thanks Seth and also for releasing X2 so early.  I was banking on Sept 29th for the pre-sale customers and what a nice surprise on Thursday.  Pre-sale downloads are ready!  I was going to spend next week cleaning up bits and bytes to get organized. (I have 5T of storage and stuff scattered everywhere.)  I get to spend this weekend being selfish with X2.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

This video is really capturing what makes SONAR X2 such a nicely tuned upgrade!

You have a cool narrating voice BTW. Reminds me of Tom Waits' track "Frank's Wild Years" on Swordfishtrombones!

Great job on the video Seth.

The focus on content was appreciated. I learned lot.

It was, to me, very worthwhile viewing your presentation.

Great video, my hats off to Brandon and Seth.  I do have a quick question on the video. I noticed on this video that the instrument icon is next to the track # on the first line. I've made the track icons small and they appear on the second line. The icon next to the track # on the first line appears to be a midi/piano icon. It doesn't matter whether they are grouped (i.e. SD3 midi group) or stand-alone track. When I go to view -> Icons -> Track View, I have "Show Icons", "Small Icons", "Show in Header" and "Show in Strip" all checked. How do I get the view like the video?

I think that was Brandon's voice over. Great video. IMHO this kind of down and dirty production gets more information across in a shorter time. Thanks

Thank you for this video. It really helped me get over the hump in the X1/X2 transition. The zoom features should be a major workflow improvement, and the automation lanes will be very handy.

...I think that was Brandon's voice over...That's definitely Seth. Excellent video Seth! Great idea for this & all future releases. It's these smaller but much improved enhancements that will really work for me, and just what I've been waiting for, as I do a lot of MIDI files & editing. Just might be the best $99 I've spent in a long while!

Thanks for the video and for the really useful features in X2. Just upgraded to Sonar X2 Producer from Sonar X1 Producer Expanded and experienced the track lanes feature. It's awesome. It's already saving me so much time with Accoustic Guitar recording. I am excited to try out the other features as well.

That was really a helpful rundown of some of the core improvements, thanks! There were a few things in there that I hadn't noticed and/or hadn't quite wrapped my head around, and this made them very clear. For a 'from the hip, off the cuff, low production value' video I'd say it was pretty darn good actually!
