  • Build a solid large control surface (only) for SONAR... PLEASE

Hi all, I use a lot of outboard gear, and I also prefer to use external converters. I am forced to use PT for clients but I really like Sonar. And what Sonar is missing is a nice pro-level Control Surface. I do not need or want an all in one hardware piece, that is pro-sumer. I simply want a decent size beautiful and impressive looking Control Surface. I don't want pre's or converters in, I have my choice of pre's and converters that I use as I am sure many of you do as well. There is options out there but none absolutely none of them look anything like what I would want in one, apart from maybe the C24 or the SSL Matrix(except it doesn't need to be a mixer and that should keep cost's much lower) If Cakewalk/Roland can build a piece that has pre's and converters included for 2.2k why don't they build a larger size Control Surface that is visually more appealing but doesn't have the pre's or converters. So I am listing features that would be important to me: 1. Full Size VERTICAL level Meters included in the board that correspond with each channel ( Very Important). None of the control surfaces out there have full size level Meters. 2. Minimum 16 to 24 motorized faders with the option to add way more that match the surface perfectly. 3. Larger than the Mackie UC or any other control, similar size to SSL Matrix or C24. 4. Full SONAR compatibility I think if Sonar had such Hardware to go with it a lot more pro's would become interested. 5. And no overblown IPAD touchpad technology, but real solid faders, knobs and LEDs. My 2 cent's hope some agree.

+1.  I've been hoping for this for years and years.  I asked a Cake tech support guy about that a year ago, and he said he didn't think any such thing was in the works.

I feel exactly the same way. I don't think this would be hard for Cakewalk to accomplish at all. Roland has been building solid equipment for ages.

Fwiw:

I am "Completing" a 5 wide (40 channel) BCR2000 in-line control surface plug in.

It works but is still vaporware as yet. I supports 6 "pages" Vol-Sends-Pan, PC EQ Levels,
PC EQ Q, PC EQ Freq, PC EQ LP/Hp, PC Sat and PC Comp. - with an optional "standard mixer eq" where the lowest pot is LF shelf the next pot up is Mid level, the next pot up is Mid sweep, and the top pot is High shelf. - Using the PC EQ or Sonitus for lesser Sonar versions

Page 7 is 32 pot ACT (yes 32) for all your FX, FX chains and VSTi needs.

Before you scoff at a bcr2000, coupled with 5 bcf2000s to handle the volume and pan and
the 5 bcr2000 taking care of the rest (eqs sat comp and act dx) it can be pretty sweet.

See my 4 wide as it was being built a couple years ago post #69

I work on it every day and will release it .

Hi Bitman, WOWW, I am truly surprised at how good that looks. You seem to be aiming for the same look I am looking for. If I hadn't seen that I would've laughed at you for even bringing up Behringer. Imagine Behringer made a meter bridge as well, that would be insane. Behringer could make this tomorrow if they wanted to, if only someone could reach out. Thank you for sharing this. But as it is would it work with SONAR without your plugin? Because these seem to be so cheap i feel like getting em tomorrow.

@OutBoard Don't know if this works for you but if you haven't seen it, have a look - http://www.bluaudio.org/d8bridge/index.html Check out the videos on the site. They also have a forum if you want to know more.

It's pretty much a 32 knob brick without some plug
The bcf2000's on the other hand can emulate a mackie and run multiple parallel units as such.
That's how I use my bcfs - mackie emu.

Actually Roland HAD a dedicated controller in the VS700C.  It was bit pricey and now with some pretty unhappy owners because of the lack of updates for it since 8.5.   I don't know that Roland will commit to a control surface- but who knows.  The touch screen stuff is promising but there aint nothin' like touching a real knob.

I would like to see something like YAMAHA NUAGE but in price range around 10K.
If you lock it and only use it with SONAR X2. Becasue of that as a VIP-inhouse user sold only for 1K = 10% of actual cost.
If you want to use it also with other DAWs you need to pay 10K.
