Thank you for that information. It is most helpful. I followed those instructions substituting Sonar X3 for the relevant Sonar Platinum folders. Its now approaching midnight so I am not going to open up Sonar now but I am going to get stuck in tomorrow afternoon.

Well when you try it, if you have not already, have a quick read of the rest of the thread. There are a couple of gotchas that are brought to light. They just got me!

I still dont get it, something Im missing LOL,

So if I just insert AD2, as a soft synth simple instrument track on the one track, (and not the AD2 cwt template), invoke PR view,  I cant see drum map, unless I create a separate midi track and assign output to DM-1 (i.e. being AD2 map), or load the AD2 cwt showing midi track
So in either case, OK fine now I see a drum map in PRV if I open the drum map pan,  load a midi loop in the midi track, but now I dont hear anything when I hit play?

So in any case,
What I would want to do is see the drum map kit pieces assigned to key notes in PRV,  (not necessarily drum map pane), e.g., when I right click on piano notes, I get the note name menu come up showing default, diatonic note names, and a list other drum kit note names available to choose from here.
Can I not assign AD2 kit pieces names to show up as a choice in this list somehow?

Cheers

To add a drum map to an AD2 instrument track,
  1. click on the AD2 instrument track in the track view to load the track into the Track Inspector,
  2. click the MIDI tab at the bottom of the Track Inspector to bring up the instrument track MIDI settings
  3. click the output drop down just above the track name in the Track Inspector
  4. select the new drum map

K so open AD2 as a simple instrument track, insert a drum loop to hear, now do what you say, now I dont hear anything when I select play, also key names are not assigned to keys in piano roll view, only in drum pane view, which may OK, accept I dont have hear audio now, if a play, or try and add notes into the drum pane (pain, lol), If I select output to AD2 2.1 choice (i.e., not the AD2 Standard choice) I can hear audio again, but loose key assignments in drum pain.
What I really want is PRV keys assigned to kit piece names (as in drum pane), and be able to hear them, also LOL.
So I guess what Im thinking is their a way to assign/import AD2 as an instrument (*.ins) file? Or do you have to create/define one manually i.e., define and go through each midi note to assigning all the parameters.

Cheers

Open the drum map manager and make sure the routing in the AD2 Standard map is correct. My guess is the Out Port assignments are not going to AD2.

If you have already following this setup:  https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013364/Setting-up-a-Drum-Map-for-Addictive-Drums-2-in-SONAR

Then insert the AD2 TRACK TEMPLATE like this into an open project:  "Insert > Track Template > Soft Synth Track Templates > AD2 > AD2 Track.cwx".

Everything should fall right into place!

K thanks, been there done that, still same result, so in any case, having done all these things, just to be certain, having done all above, if I now go into Piano Roll View, right click on piano keys I get a menu that comes up that allows me to assign names to piano keys, the default is diatonic, there's general midi drums, and many others, if a I chose one it assigns kit piece names to piano keys. (not in drum pain).

So are you all saying having done all the above I should now be seeing the AD2 choice coming up in the list of available note names assignable, such as diatonic 0-127, 1-128, General Midi, etc.... (and mapped to AD2)

The Note pane keyboard does not change when using a drum map. The drum map uses the Drum pane above the Note pane in the PRV. "Show/Hide Drum Pane" is the first option in the PFV View menu. The only way the keyboard changes in the Note pane is if the plug-in supports a specific VST opcode, for example Session Drummer and BFD offer this type of support or an assignment is made with the Note Names dialog. The note Names dialog uses entries in the .Note Names section of Master.ins.
