(Merged these threads together).

I'm working on a solution for you folks but need a bit more time. Unfortunately I can't make some things move faster then my computer can compute. I'll follow up again shortly when I have a bit more information.

Thanks Ryan. Your on top of it, so that's good enough for me. I'll keep watching the thread.

What I do know about this issue already is that some folks are ending up without a SN when upgrading (not when installing from fresh). If you guys want to investigate, you can try adding a "string" value titled "Serial Number" with your Rapture Serial Number to the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture

I'm not sure if you'll need to use your previous serial number or the updated one, but obviously make sure your serial number and reg code pair match with one another.
--------------------
Ryan, I know some others have been talking about issues here when they already had the full version of Rapture.  In the case I described above, though, I did not have a full version of Rapture, only Rapture LE.  The full version of Rapture (or Rapture VSTi, if that is something different from the full version) should have been installed by the X2 Producer installation (and I even did try twice going back to try to install only Rapture).  As such, the keys you mention above don't even exist in my registry, only the related keys for Rapture LE ("rple" in the former case and both "Rapture LE" and "rple" in the latter case).

Would adding the keys and strings also work in the case where (full) Rapture was not previously installed?  (Assumedly, if it did, the keys would have to be added first, then go back to the X2 Producer Setup program and run the Rapture installation again since the files haven't yet installed.)

Hi Everyone,

Anyone experiencing a blank Serial Number field in Rapture, can you confirm whether or not you previously had Rapture installed? In my personal tests, this was only happening if I installed over the 1.2.2 update. I'd end up with two Rapture .dll files, one which read the new serial number properly and one which did not. In any case...

I'd like you to try the following fix:

1) Go to Start > All Programs > Cakewalk > Rapture
2) Run any Rapture uninstallers you see listed. You might see several depending on if you had a previous Rapture installation as well as both 32-bit and 64-bit installations
3) Delete any Rapture components left behind in the following locations (if any)
  • C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Rapture
  • C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Rapture
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Rapture

4) Log into the SONAR X2 Producer download area here: http://www.cakewalk.com/download/SONAR-X2.aspx

NOTE: you MUST provide valid credentials to get into this download area. If you have multiple email addresses on file, give them each a try.

5) Download and run the new stand-alone Rapture 1.2.2 installer in your download area
6) Make sure to use the CWRP-1.22-XXXXXX-XXXXXX serial number and compatible registration code
7) Launch Rapture with Administrative Privliges and try entering your registration code again
8) Also, if you're launching Rapture inside of SONAR, you may need to Re-Scan your Vst Plug-ins if you have this option disabled on start up

Please let me know if it works or not. If it does not work, please let me know what serial number (if any) is listed when you launch Rapture.  UPDATE: in a private message of course! Don't post your serial number!

If it works out for you folks, I will sync up with our Cakewalk Store guru to get this download linked into your online Cakewalk store accounts as well (which we might have to wait until Monday for).

Ryan, a quick response:

I didn't have any of the things in your steps 1-3 because I only had Rapture LE.  There is no separate uninstaller for Rapture LE as far as I can see.  I did not (yet anyway -- please let me know if I need to) delete the Rapture LE plug-ins (I use a custom directory path, not the ones you had in your message -- basically, subtrees under p:\music\vst\cakewalk), nor did I attempt to manually remove Rapture LE registry keys.

Result of attempting to install the standalone Rapture 1.2.2 you provided is that I get the error message about already having another version of Dimension(!) installed, and it brings me to the web page for Dimension Pro 1.5 updates (http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013166).

That suggests to me that the Rapture installer erroneously has the code for detecting Dimension version conflicts in there, and aborts if it finds Dimension (and I do have V1.5 there from earlier updates).

Rick
P.S. - I wasn't getting full Rapture in there at all, so this may not be applicable to your request, though I think it may still provide some explanation on what is going on, at least for those of us who weren't starting with full Rapture, and possibly for others, too.

Hmmm. Okay well that one is news to me. Would you be willing to send me an export of a section of your registry? If so, we can take it offline since that wouldn't really be the type of info to be passed back and forth over a forum.

To clear a few things up:

- This installer is identical to the one at the END of the X2 Producer installer. The only difference is that you can launch it by yourself and that it won't rip your previous serial number out if it detects it (resulting in a blank SN field)
- You do not need to remove Rapture LE if you don't want to. Ultimately this whole issue is pertaining to the full version of Rapture's serial number/authorization schema. It changed... which is where the weirdness is coming in.
- The goal in my steps is to realistically just remove the previous traces of the old Rapture installer so that the new one doesn't try to dance with it anymore. There are a variety of versions of it so troubleshooting which version you have, and where, is obviously quite a challenge.
