  • Addictive Drums - Pan Control Of Individual Cymbals? (p.2)

Glad I caught this thread. I thought, there's got to be a pan I'm missing, and sure enough.... On the edit page at the very top-left there is a little green and little red slider, one to pan the cymbal in the OH mix, the other is for the room. Now that I found this (heck, only took a year and a half) I love Addictive even more. It's so superior to Session that I still see no need to send cymbals to individual tracks.

So a real drawback of AD2 is that you're forced to do your sound design for the cymbals within AD2, as you can't export each cymbal as a separate stem and do it in SONAR.

Seems to be trying to force you to do ALL of your work within AD2 and just export the 2-track stereo.

Since I haven't yet attempted to adjust the stereo field of XLN's kits and presets, I hadn't noticed this as a workflow issue.

Strikes me as a real PITA. Best I can do is offer my sympathy.

Also note the stereo image is from the drummer's perspective (e.g hi-hat on the left, assuming a right handed drummer). You can flip the stereo image by clickkng on the master pan and pulling down, IIRC (I'm not in front of it at the moment), and you may have to simultaneously press control or shift ... something non-intuitive like that.

You're right. It is non-intuitive. Here's a link to Wookiee's post with the instructions.

I always mix my drums in "audience perspective" since that's the way anyone...but the drummer...would ever hear them.  It's probably just me but I really don't understand why "drummer perspective" seems to be the default on so many programs.

This is indeed "backwards".  Maybe it's because of the "Electronic Drums" that are triggered by
the samples...nevertheless...when mixing, it's always "audience" perspective...end of story...

what is this "audience perspective" you speak of?

Oh, you mean that one guy in the club asleep at the bar?

I use the default and pretend my drummer is left handed.

Lol.
Does perspective really matter? Left handed drummer ,different stage setups etc. All still sound like music no?

I'm sure drummer perspective makes or breaks a hit song.

Just like if the hi-hat is 2db too loud.

Or there is just a bit too much reverb on the horns.
