  • "General Failure" Crash When Saving!!!

What would cause Sonar to crash when I try to save the project?
I'm working on the biggest song to date. 50+ tracks, some Melodyne rendering and effects in both busses and FX rack.

Are there any common no-no's I could violating?

I tried opening a different project and was able to do a small edit, then save and close it successfully.

But when trying to save our current big project, I get the error message, "General Failure".

I'm just getting to the point where I sort of understand rendering and using Melodyne and Bouncing to Tracks. But Bouncing to Clips is still a mystery.

I'm botching something up, but I have no idea what it could be.
I know my description is vague, but if anyone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful!

Thanks again!

Bouncing to tracks = generates an audio track the length of the song regrouping all clips in that track.
Bouncing to clips = applies changes to specific clip(s) selected

When I work with Melodyne, to render I simply do a Region fx/ Melodyne / Render region fx.
I don't "Bounce to clip", but result is similar, I assume.
Also, try to work in small sections with Melodyne and render as you go. Don't leave any Region FX not rendered. You should have no problem saving big projects that way.

Thanks Slyman,
Hopefully Sonar is crashing because I've made a mess of my Melodyned' clips, and once I've straightened them out, all will be fine.
Question: After using Region FX and moving things around with Melodyne, what do I do then? Is the Bouncing to either Tracks or Clips "Rendering"? (There's no actual command called "Render", right?) And you say you think the results are the same... which is what exactly?
Also, is there a way to tell what's been rendered and what has not?
My project is screwed until I figure this out. So, I super appreciate your words.
Peace

After editing your clip with Melodyne, click Region fx, Melodyne, Render region fx. You will see the rendering process happening. Save your project and proceed to the following clip if needed. That's how I do it anyways

I've had this error happen and it's super frustrating. You could try "save a copy as..." in a different directory. Or if that doesn't work, export all tracks, with or without effects, so you at least have something saved if you can't do it the normal way.

Yay! I manged to finally save the project without crashing!
I think it was one of the small vocals that I hadn't Bounced to tracks.
I bounced all the Melodyne stuff To Tracks (to the same track it was recorded to) instead of Clips. Before, I wasn't really paying attention to which clips were getting bounced in which way or anything, since I really didn't understand the process. I still don't really. Only that it needs to be done. Guitars are so much more user friendly.
Anyway thanks so much!
Peace

The video I linked on your other thread explained all the steps with Melodyne and rendering them.

I started this thread a few weeks ago and seems almost the same question.

I was pretty sure Melodyne might be the cause of my crashes. I never did get to the bottom of it which is sort of par for the course with Sonar crashes. Of course it just went away with out anything being changed,, but I'm still highly suspect it was Melodyne because I had used melodyne on every song that crashed to convert audio to midi.
