Steve, here's one forum host who agrees with you. Those pointless posts push more interesting things off the first page, diminishing the value of this subforum.

BUT...if we start banning senseless and inane posts, the Coffee House would empty out quickly. It would lose its character and its characters.

The challenge for those of us who'd like to increase the meat-to-fat ratio is to post more meaty stuff. Like this one: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Crap-Jokes-anyone-m1601078.aspx

My first CH page here still has posts from 6 days ago. How long do people think it is appropriate before regarding stuff falling off of the first page as a "problem"? I'm asking seriously, but understand I am not endorsing an excess of pointless threads here, just questioning whether this is a real, actual problem in this particular subforum. I understand that what some might find amusing, others find to be annoying and useless clutter. Personally, I don't care what people post either way.

Are you sure you want to encourage people to post "more meaty stuff"? This is the CH, remember.

Totally agree with what you say here - it can get a bit monotonous/tiring at times, but it's a part of what makes it what it is and on the whole I wouldn't want to mess with that too much.........

BUT... what I will say is that the host that I think Steve is referring to has previously threatened me (and maybe others, I don't know) with a ban for violation of the CoC for doing exactly  the same thing as he himself had done on the current front page of the forum at that time. I think this is the point Steve is making. It's not really about the inane posts as such, but more about consistency from those who sometimes choose to quote the rules and threaten consequences, yet somehow manage to exempt themselves from the same rules when it suits them.

Drew, I may be wrong, but I think Bitflipper was, albeit a little sarcastically, calling me out as a hypocrite.

Maybe... I can understand that. But then again, I'm not a forum host. It's not like I have any power at all when it comes to policing others' posting behaviour. As I've said before, I honestly believe that hosts should set an example, otherwise how can anyone be expected to respect their decisions when they rule on others' misdemeanours?

Clearly, I've never had a problem with us having a bit of a laugh and joke in here, I just don't understand the appeal of clogging the place up with these title-variation threads. If anything, I think it's a bit selfish - if anyone wants to be part of a community that simply regurgitates different versions of a thread title and finds it amusing, why not start your own forum and do it there? I'll wager such activity isn't in evidence in the Corner Pub?

I know the Coffee House is given some leeway compared to other forums here, but mocking or parodying other thread titles in any of the other forums would be stamped on immediately.

Incidentally, to deflect any criticism of my not following the correct procedure by simply b1tching about it in here, before I posted my thoughts above, I officially reported the matter to a forum host who I thought might at least be sympathetic to my cause. But in keeping with his policy of ignoring anything I say, he still hasn't even had the common decency to even acknowledge my Private Message, even though he read it over five hours ago.

It's good to know the system works.

The official way to report such matters is to use the abuse reporting system Steve, as you are well aware.
However in this case it was recognised that your PM was intended as an official report and thus was given discussion. I was tasked with resolving the issue, but in the couple of hours that passed while I had personal errands to run the threads in question dropped down the page, as I thought they would.  If they're not replied to further then they'll keep dropping.

You are aware that the rules are more relaxed in the CH, and while I'm not condoning everyone filling the place with such threads, the occasional few will be left to run their course.

Do you mean like when 7 or 8 threads appear in the SONAR forum about a new release of RapturePro or some such product announcement?

Happens all the time and while not "parody" threads not a one gets deleted nor are any combined. They just prattle on.

And let's not get started on the "subscription model" threads back in January. That was worse than any given day in the CH with 7-10 parody titles, IMO. I think the hosts and in particular Anderton had numb fingers for a week.

Yeh, a little.

But "hypocrite" is too strong. I didn't mean it to be snarky, and I really do agree with you.

My point was simply that the threshold of unacceptable frivolity is higher here than in other subforums, and that's what gives this place its character.

Not every joke resonates with everybody, but that's OK. I used to pan for gold recreationally. The first principle you learn is that when gold panning, you're going to discard a LOT of sand before being rewarded with an occasional nugget.

My opinion of the coffee house is that it should be a place for creative frivolity, there are plenty of areas on the forum for respectful discussion.

It's nice to have a place to let off steam, for people to be silly, to express themselves as they wish as long as they aren't hurting anyone else (or animals)...

Long may the coffee house remain a place for free expression!

So how might I go about reporting this post, hypothetically speaking of course?

Would I be correct in assuming that hosts are immune from being 'officially' reported in their 'designated' forums?

The 'Report Abuse' button seems to be conveniently missing compared to others' posts:

I credit you as being a responsible, intelligent adult Steve.  Please explain why you continue to ask this when you've been given the answer before.
