how does having ARA in Sonar help me?

The VST API provides a means of exposing the plug-in to a buffer of sample points, typically just a small fraction of a second's worth.  Obviously, this would be of no use to something like Melodyne.  ARA is a way of (somehow - don't know the details) giving the plug-in a much more expansive view of the sound data, probably the whole track's worth.

Hey Beagle,
Besides the new toys that have already been mentioned, X3 performs smoother on my system than X2. I like the comping better and I use Melodyne all the time for edited audio in many ways as well as converting audio to midi.
I also really like the fly-out EQ. Addictive Drums was fun to play with but I still rely on SD 2.

Ditto!

Fly out EQ and ARA, alone were worth it for me.  X3 has been smooth and flawless.  I have used AD on two of my last 3 songs and they were a really good fit for that song style.  Comping is really easy and nice.

...if they had fixed the drum map or something useful...

I'd be upgrading too if they did something like that.

This was mentioned in another thread as a good reason to upgrade:

Yes but it's never the case there are any bugs or stability improvements that need fixing before the updates, you just become a 'hater' for mentioning them and then the fixes become features and selling points all of a sudden.

It is somewhat nice to see bugs and stability to be taken more seriously these days though and that prevailing 'denial' culture, although clearly still evident, isn't nearly as bad as it once was.

TBH, because of that noticeable change I've also been considering the loyalty upgrade as well at this point but I've been such a tart lately it almost feels 'wrong'...
